Thumbs down UA Cutting ORD-SNA Flights to 2 a Day

According to .bomb, starting in November there will be only 2 UA metal nonstops between SNA and ORD. The last flight out of SNA, and first flight out of ORD each day will be CO metal (they never had nonstops before), and the prices for those flights are OUTRAGEOUS. $800+ each way, for every date in November I checked. Anyone know what's up with that? Anyone think people will pay that when AA is still $250-$300?

the ord-sna cuts seem to be happening with regularity. not sure why...they all seem to be close to capacity. AA's dropped flights as well...a year or two ago. it might be a seasonal change...hopefully...

Title is a bit misleading - there are still three ORD-SNA roundtrips, one is just operated by CO starting in November.

They've also figured out folks will pay a premium to fly into SNA....sucks for those who aren't stockholders...

This seems to be happening on a lot of routes that previously had several UA flights, but none on CO metal. Perhaps they're better balancing their fleets in some way through these flight swaps. It also may be that this is an easy way for each brand to expand its apparent reach with flyers who still prefer their native metal.

I have noticed the Y/B-only fare classes showing up on some CO flights that adopt PMUA routes. They usually correct it quickly and open up the appropriate buckets. If you really need that CO flight, just wait a couple days and more classes will appear.

Maybe I got lucky, but I'm seeing an S fare on the CO1099 on November 10th for $153.70, which looks entirely normal.

You must not have taken a 1-3 day trip out of EWR or IAH lately

not really sure what you are talking about...11/11-11/13 SNA-ORD is $307 (S fare). maybe you're searching for refundable fares.

and with the merger, you're going to see UA flights operated by CO. so no surprise there either.
