How to remove applied upgrade before UDU window?

How to remove applied upgrade before UDU window?
I'm sure this is commonly known, and I feel a bit idiotic for not being able to find the proper search terms for it ("undo" and "remove" don't seem to hit anything).
As a 1K, I'd like to apply an upgrade instrument to a trip eligible for UDU (but currently NF0). If the upgrade doesn't clear ahead of the 100-hour window, I'd like to remove the applied instrument at T-100.001 hours (hyperbolically speaking) and just go with UDU.
Is this possible? Easy?
