Would You Buy 1K Status?

Awhile back, for a couple of years, it was possible to purchase full 1K status from UA. I forget the exact cost but I think it was around $6-8K per year. Would you like to see the "new" UA again offer the 1K purchase option?

I already did purchase 1K...by flying over 100,000 miles BIS! That's the only way it should be done.

Of course you can buy 1K.

You hand over $10,000 and sit on planes for a week.

I'm probably mistaken, but I think I remember the price was $20,000, prepaid against tickets during the year, and non-refundable at the end of the year if you didn't use it all up.

That's what I remember as well. I also remember that it did not come with SWU's.

I don't recall the $20k number myself but there may have been a couple of versions of this offer. US currently allows "buy ups" to all of their elite levels, including Chairman's Preferred, and CO's "Elite Maximizer" offers another way of buying up elite status.

UA selling 1K status at $6K to $8K per year? I don't ever remember seeing the offer, but considering that UA won't status match 1K to super elites from other programs, I doubt very much that the price would be so low if it was offered at all.

I'm OK with the current buy-up to 1K where you pay $1000 or $500 and fly 30k miles or so in 90 days if you end the previous year 5-10k miles short. Not OK with a straight buy of 1K. Doing so would significantly reduce the benefit.

You can buy 1K for around $7.5K without ever flying currently.

1) Book CO ticket
2) Buy elite maximizer miles @~7.5 cpm
3) Cancel ticket within refund period
4) Rinse & Repeat

Sometimes you find better deals on miles as well, so 6-8K can be done now.
