LAX Baggage Connection Question
 

My flights are as follows:

ORD-LAX, arrive 00:30
LAX-LIH, depart 08:30


Checked Bag Options:

1) If I wanted to, am i able to check in my bag straight to LIH from ORD or can UA only check bags up to LAX and re-check them in the morning? If am I able to check the bags in straight through, I get nervous the bag won't make it to LIH and just sit in LAX until I file a missing bag claim and is forwarded on a later flight.

2) If I collect my bags in LAX and for some reason they do not show up, can UA be made aware to forward the bags to LIH? The baggage tag will only show up to LAX.


What is my best option here? I've had bad experience with checked bags recently so I am trying to properly strategize this.

1) Don't check bags

2) Ask the CSR to short check. This isn't allowed under most circumstances, but exceptions are usually made for this kind of connection.

3) LAX is not particularly bad about checked bag connections

4) DON'T CHECK BAGS

I will have carry-on but I will have 1 checked bag.

So should I short-check or connect the bag all the way through? If the short-check and for some reason the bag doesn't make it to LAX, then what?

checking all the way through with an overnight connection doesnt make me feel too confident the bag will make it, maybe i'm wrong, like you said lax is good for this
