Baggage allowance for elite companions
Sorry, I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I spent 20 minutes searching and found nil.

I can't get the second link to go to actual info, just the FAQ section. But everything else points to the first answer being correct (2x50 for companions).

When doubted - go with the lowest - 2x @ 50 lbs

Real-life experiance...
1K, travelling with non-status GM. LAS-ORD-LGA. Only 2 bags for companion with 50lb limit. One of the bags was 65lb, the agent collected $100 as excess fee. Had to pay. ps- this was back in March 2011 |

Were you both on the same PNR? Yes, we were both on same PNR. If 2pax have 4 bags >65 pounds, I'm not generating much sympathy. No sympathy is expected. |
There was a time when 1K companions officially got the 1K allowance, although I never observed it actually granted. As of the most recent baggage policy update, it is 2x50 lbs for all companions on the same record.
Note that confirmed upgrades to business or first (even one segment in that direction) now raise the weight limit to 70 lbs for those passengers. So if you can get upgraded, you'll have 5 x 70 lbs. I can say that not all UA baggage agents know these rules. |
To clarify:
a) As a 1P, I get 3 bags of <70 pounds each? b) My non-status companion on the same PNR gets 2 bags at <50 pounds each? The outbound is on UA metal. The return is on CO metal -- does that fact change anything for the return? |
