Advice on booking timing
 

I am hoping to get some advice on when to book.

I have 3 x $350 e certs expiring in Nov 2011 that stipulate I must use them on UA operated flights only. I fly out of any of the airports in the SF Bay Area.

My first thought was to go to Hawaii during the summer holidays but the prices are way higher than I can ever remember ie $800+

So I was thinking about holidaying on the east coast instead, flying into IAD, seeing DC and then exploring the coast beaches and cities / towns from Virginia down to South Carolina. Seems far easier to find fares not much above $350 thereby using my certs well.

So the advice I need is:

1) Can I expect Hawaii flight prices to fall over the months ahead or should I not bother and lock in the flights to IAD now? As a reference, I can see Alaska airlines for $520 from OAK to OGG (my preferred Hawaii destination). That kind of price might sway me to Hawaii if available on United.

2) Any suggestions on alternative airports on the east coast?

Simply saying, you are way too early to book any flights for Hawaii...

When would you suggest I come back to look? I'm going to be booking for the summer holidays.

Any tips anyone on when mid June to late July flights to Hawaii will be cheaper than they are now?
