HNL2ORD goes to the left coast

a bit late with this:
3/9 UA101 ORD>LAX on with no announcement^
3/16 UA 192 SNA>ORD on gate to gate with announcement ^^

used to be that the Airbus pilots were far less likely to turn it on but I have had good luck lately. Next up ORD>HNL RT will report back...

I don't know about that. In 2009 I was 24/30 and last year I was 13/18 on Airbus'. FWIW, with a small sample size, this year I am 1/2.

4/3 UA881 NRT-BKK Off when we boarded, turned on sometime between push-back and taxi. On through takeoff and initial climb. Shortly after I put my bed down and dozed off after the double-chime, I was abruptly awakened by smooooooth jazz ringing in my ears. Pulled earbuds out, slept. Woke up over Taiwan, earbuds were still blaring Kenny G. Went back to sleep. Woke up again just as we crossed the Vietnam coastline, and Channel 9 was on again, and remained on until we reached the gate in Bangkok.

So...

4/3 UA 933 IAD-RDU 320

I'm now a pathetic 2/7 this year. The only ones with it on are 320s between RDU and IAD when the flight is barely long enough to enjoy it. I'm thinking I agree with what FiveMileFinal said up thread.

Great day of MRing yesterday....4/4

4/5 UA185 PHL-SFO A319 ^
4/5 UA322 SFO-SEA A320 ^
4/5 UA200 SEA-ORD A320 ^
4/5 UA640 ORD-PHL A320 ^

Forget to mention...captain on PHL-SFO did his preflight announcements from outside the cockpit...his first name was Neil I believe, because he called it "Neil's Spiel". Also specifically mentioned Channel 9 ^

4/5 UA909 AMS-ORD, asked the Purser who said the Captain specifically said "NO."
4/5 UA882 ORD-BOS

And so ends my string of very good luck -- 8 for 10 ^ the last month including two TPACs and one TATL.

3/30 UA876 A320 SEA-DEN

...was sitting in 1C, and overheard the captain talking to the purser, "There will be no channel 9."

This particular flight had the least amount of information coming out of the flight deck of any flight I've been on, flying any carrier, ever.

For instance, the normal approach flight deck message was simply, "Seat Belts." No arrival time, no wx, no nothing. The perception was cold shoulder - that the folks in the flight deck were annoyed that there were pax in back.

Please don't take it personally. There are a lot of pilots that are very focused on what the were hired for (flying you to your destination safely). I was never assessed for my "people-person skills" when I got hired.
Most of us are decent communicators though, but it's not part of the job description.
For the time being, I turn CH9 on, and make some memorable PAs, and try to keep them short, succinct, and sometimes a little humorous, but sometimes, a 14 hour day can suck the zazzle out of my announcements.

There are pretty much none of us that aren't glad you're on our planes, except if you're a troublemaker or a bad guy

So far, mister tilton or mister smisek are the only people I would prefer that they stay off of my flights.
