Asked the pilot upon boarding, and he said we would keep it off for security reasons. In the event of an emergency, he wanted to be able to create a plan of action with the crew without rumors flying around the cabin. |

I agree though that, with some common sense filtering on our part, Ch. 9 is a wealth of information and, at least for me, gives me a lot of comfort and enjoyment that our flight is being handled by true professionals in the cockpit and the ATC. |
3/29 HKG-ORD UA896 off initially, but asked after lift-off and it was turned on for the rest of the 13-hour flight ^^^ - including the Pacific crossing when you get to listen to 123.45, where aircraft chat with each other (usually about ride quality, but sometimes not :) ). It was especially good to have it on when we went through a 90-minute period of continuous moderate turbulence, as did aircraft along nearby altitudes and tracks. I sent the captain a business card with a thank-you note ;)
3/29 ORD-BOS UA882 On, with announcement ^^^ |

3/25 UA937 ZRH-IAD, B767 ^:td: Initially off. Asked FA to ask captain, was then turned on prior to takeoff. Turned off during TATL hop, never turned back on.
3/28 UA936 IAD-ZRH, B767 :td: All Audio channels non-functional on this flight. |
4 for 4 recently - time to buy that lotto ticket ;)

Flight crew made an announcement, and Ch. 9 was on pretty much gate to gate |
