GA handing out red envelopes to some pax before boarding
I was on UA346 from IAH-ORD yesterday (11/22) and saw that the GA was handing out red envelopes to some pax (maybe 5-7) before boarding. Perhaps something for GS? Does anyone know what this was? Has this happened on other flights?

I know that they have recently been passing out letters thanking 1K/GS pax for their business and offering e-mail address of the station manager.

I received a card from one of the station managers in ORD about 4 weeks ago. It was a nice thank you note.

They didn't hand it out to all 1Ks (I didn't get one). So is this targeted for folks who do a lot of FF?

I believe those are termination of service notices. You should have gotten an e-mail about the reduction in services, but the red envelopes help with the impact.

Can we confirm if these are simply letters of appreciation for the elite flyers?
A tad underwhelming if that is the case, but a cost effective way to show customer appreciation. I'd at least hope for a voucher or something to go with the letter.

Maybe they were the 2011 elite membership cards.

I, and every other GS and 1K, got one of these red envelopes flying MSY-LAX not too long ago. My envelope contained a thank you note and a United key chain.

Earlier this year, I (and 11 others in F) was handed our pilot's US biz card with his a handwritten note on the back, saying Thank You, and asking us to email him with any needs. Not a card/key chain but effective nonetheless.

I have had the pilot send out his card with a written note at least 3 times - once back in E+ as well.
