Facilities in GRU

I did a search and didnt see anything on this..

Going IAD-GRU in Y. I am UA *Gold and a RCC member. Are there any facilities in the RCC in GRU for a shower after the flight?

Thank you

Arrivals showers are in the RCC, be sure to look for sign and UA person before going thru immigration. Pass immigration and you can't get into RCC. I have been checked before that I was in C or F when using the shower. I don't think you can use shower if in Y, but it is worth a try.

Decent selection of cold snacks and drinks also.

And in Sao Paulo you can of course use the Varig lounge. Used that last month when flying them to La Paz and Argentina, and did not look for a shower, but imagine there is one. Fairly reasonable snack range, working computers, and free booze etc.

IIRC it was before immigration? But from Lima to EZE we did not leave transit lounge, and think we used a lounge so maybe there are 2?

I used the Varig lounge to take a shower after going through immigration, but before connecting on my flight to Fortaleza. The Varig staff were also very nice and booked us on an earlier flight to Fortaleza despite the fact that we had star alliance award tickets that did not allow any change of flights after the start of travel.

Prior to Immigration, in GRU RCC facilities have showers but they call the area "UA Arrivals" http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif (if you know what I mean). Also you can go to Terminal 2, prior to Immigration by keeping on the corridor where UA lounge is and you'll find two RG business class lounges and one F RG lounge. I'm unsure whether they've showers. After immigration you've but the RG domestic lounge, where I don't believe there are showers.

If I am not continuing onto a varig (or any) domestic flight can I use their club as an "arrivals" of sort or will they want to see a ticket?

Are you staying in GRU? How about checking into your hotel and using that instead? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

A couple of minor drawbacks to this plan:

1. You will doubtless require a Visa to leave ther airport, which runs over $US100 for many countries. For me it is is well over $US100. And Brazil is THE worse country to deal with to get one, as a bonus. Utter rude pigs the consular officials here the 5 times I have needed one.

2. Departure tax out of GRU is insane. We too had the bright idea to take a 10 hour break for sleep recently at Caesar Park airport Hotel. IIRC the departure tax was something nuts like $US40 each.

3. Brazil has some truly nutty health deals. Flying Varig back from Lima to Argentina last month via GRU they INSISTED on a Yellow Fever Certificate. United or Varig of course did not advise of this silly requirement at any time BEFORE leaving home. (I've had that jab several times.)

Now Yellow Fever basically does not exist on earth, and when it does is found in a few isolated pockets on the Amazon etc. NOT found in Lima, Cuzco and Lake Titicaca of course. Tell that to these dopes. Getting a Yellow Fever cert in Boliva at short notice was NOT much fun, was NOT easy, and was an annoying waste of vacation time. And it MUST be dated at least 10 days before your flights as well.

thanks, but here is the deal. I am going to visit some family and friends, but I am going to take the evening sleeper bus to Brasilia from Sao Paulo. Since GRU is my final destination can I take a shower in the Varig lounge since United is "arrivals" and I am in Y? Also is there a place to store luggage? The leito bus does not leave till around 9pm. I arrive around 9 or 10am.

There are two showers in the RG domestic lounge which a *A Gold arriving passenger from IAD can use after passing through immigration. I have done this. The ambience of the RCC is nicer, however I tend to agree with a previoius poster that showers in the RCC may only be available to C and F passengers.

Boa viagem
