Definition of 'Roundtrip'?

Maybe this is a rhetorical question, but how does UA define a roundtrip? Start and end-point being the same? Is SEA->IAD->ORD->IAD->SEA roundtrip? What about SEA->LAX->NRT->LAX on one pnr and LAX->IAD->SEA on a different pnr? What about RTW? I don't seem to be able to find any defnition on UA's website...

This is from the T&Cs on the latest "Fly 3, Fly Free. Fly 6, Fly First" promotion:

"Roundtrip travel is defined as two one-way trips that depart from and return to the same co-terminal booked in a single reservation under one qualifying ticket number."

Looks like you have to have the whole itinerary in one PNR.

It may depend on context? When trying to use an online discount cert, the system won't let you price, say, OAK-DEN-IND and return IND-ORD-OAK.

Interesting. What if I fly:

SAN-LAX-SFO-LAX-SFO in one day on one ticket. Is that one roundtrip or two (SAN-LAX and LAX-SFO)?

This could be interesting - I have a SEA->IAD->DCA->ORD->MSP->ORD->DCA->SEA trup coming up. How many roundtrips will this be? ;-) I guess you can't have 2 roundtrips on the same PNR.
If the two one-way fares rule is enforced I guess RTW fares does not count either....:-(

Be careful with the "circle trip" rule. As long as you only transit the cities between SEA and MSP (both directions) then this will be one round trip. If you stop anywhere along the way, the whole trip ceases to be a "round-trip". This was part of the T&C for last years Fly 3-1 Free promotion, but does not seem to be included in the current Fly 3 promotion.

This itinerary would never be more than one round trip if it is on one PNR.
