A slight problem and a big gift
Last week I flew and upgraded with a SWU, BKK-NRT-SFO-ORD-STL. When I got to SFO I was told my flight to STL was canceled due to weather. After much handholding and direction from me, the CSR rerouted me SFO-DEN-STL. He said he could upgrade me SFO-DEN, but I would have to be on the waitlist DEN-STL. I thought it was odd seeing I was already confirmed through to STL but didn't say anything. When I got to DEN the CSR in the RCC told me the last seat had been taken by a UGS. I told her I thought a confirmred SWU would trump a UGS, she agreed and said she it didn't make sense to her either.
Today I was checking on my electronic upgrades and found out that the CSR had used 2 500 Mi. E-upgrades to upgrade me SFO-DEN instead of using my already existing SWU. That explained why I got trumped by the UGS. I then called Mileage plus to get my 2 500 Mi. e-upgrades put back in my account. The Mileage Plus rep said she didn't know how to get my e-uprades back in my account but she would give me 16, 500 Mi. upgrades for my trouble in SFO. That sounds like an unusual comp. Has this happened to others? I guess it's not much compared to an SWU, but it seems like a lot to me. Any opinions? |
It sounds like she misunderstood that your 500 miler e-upgrades were deducted by mistake since you already had an SWU valid for all of the segments from BKK to STL.
Therefore, I think she gave you 16 500-milers because she thought an e-SWU was deducted... ? ------------------ Thank you for flying and staying UNITED. Your business and support is highly appreciated. Enjoy your flight and spread the word! |
Yes, that was a very generous gift...you netted 14 500 milers, and I'm sure you didn't miss much in F from DEN-STL!
