Try this on for size...
Lately I've traveled with sealed* goodies on some of my long haul flights. At the end of the flight, if the service was really good, I hand them to the FAs that serviced my cabin. It's a great feeling and it certainly brightens up the FA day.
Plus, you don't necessarily have that hanging guilt of bribery that so oft accompanies giving out the gifts before the flight. *Sealed goodies are better as there's little question as to whether or not they've been tampered with. |
Sounds nice, but sealed or not, can I ask what these 'goodies' actually are?

Godiva Chocolates

Classy! Very thoughtful. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

It's more fun 'paying' upfront, shortly after take-off.
When you tell the F/A that the passengers are supplying the chocolates instead of UA, they laugh!. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |

I did this with both US and UA FAs and often times gate agents that helped me out a lot starting a bit before Thanksgiving and going until after New Year's. Not only did I get free booze on a couple Express flights, I also wasn't asked to have upgrades collected a couple of times. I would bring enough for the FAs and the captain/first officer. 2 times, the Captain came back and thanked me personally during flight and another time, I got his card with a thank you and happy holidays on it. Made me feel good, and gave them an unexpected surprise.

That's odd. I tried to kiss my FA, but she batted me away http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/confused.gif

I did the same thing when I went to LA over Thanksgiving. I actually read about doing something nice to help release some of the hectic traveling stress they (the check-in agent, gate agent, FA, etc) could be experiencing. So, before I left on that Wednesday, I bought several of those small Godiva truffle boxes (probably paid ($2-3 a piece). After I got my upgrade (used a certificate, did not bribe), I gave the check-in agent one. I gave another to the FA after some superb service (was rewarded with several of the Almond Roca candies from Y, though definitely didn't expect anything in return). Finally, on my return trip, I gave my last box to the check in agent and I really must say it probably made her day. She was extrememely short with the previous customer and looked like she was starting to have a bad day. I used another one of my upgrade certificates and she finished checking me in. After I got my boarding pass, I gave her the chocolate and told her to have a good rest of the weekend. I could tell she really appreciated the gesture. I wish I could remember which Flyertalk person suggested the idea of doing something nice. I hope to do this every time I fly because I know they work hard and deserve something special.

I was flying on 9-11-02, and ran into a special on chocolates in small boxes (like 4 or 6 pieces per box) a couple days before the trip. Got a bunch, and handed them to the cabin crew when I boarded.
I was a bit concerned that they would have to just dump them (out of fear that they had been tampered with even though they still had the original cellophane wrap on them), but at least some of the crew ate them (one asked whether there was one more for the crew member who was working in the back - as it was my last segment that day, and I had a couple left over, there was). |
What a thoughtful and sweet idea! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
This reminds me of that movie "Pay It Forward." Good deeds always feel good, even if not instantly. ------------------ Thank you for flying and staying UNITED. Your business and support is highly appreciated. Enjoy your flight and spread the word! |
