Premier Exec Issue
I ended 2003 about 1400 miles short of premier exec status. I spoke with a few customer service folks who recommended that I write to a "premier exec committee". I did so and received an email from them indicating thet they would not be able to do anything about it.
I am pretty bummed out about this. Have flown United quite a bit (1k in 2001 and 88k miles in 2002) and was expecting a better show of appreciation on their part. Would appreciate any ideas or thoughts from some one who has been in a similar situation. Do I still have any options to get them to review my case? Thanks. |
Wow. With the Double EQM promotion at the end of the year, I'm surprised that you were short the miles necessary.
I wouldn't hold any hope for leniency. |
I know your frustration with MP.

"I feel your pain"...but since UA had so many ways during 4Q of 2003 to maintain or upgrade your status, I think they're going to "stick to their guns"...and I really can't blame them.

Sometimes ya "just gotta do what you just gotta do". I was 1000 miles short (even after "The Great Offer" gave me 9000) short of renewing as a Premiere Executive.
I looked and looked for a same-day mileage run. SEA-PDX was $400. SEA-YYZ was $350. SEA-LAX/SFO were both well over $300. Even doing an overnight, once hotel and meals were added, made it more then just the same-day turn. I tried an overnight turn to ORD - $350. The cheapest fare I found SEA-SFO-JFK-SFO-SEA for $218. It required me to take the evening flight out (landing at JFK at midnight) and the 7am flight back, so I spent five hours sitting in T4 (the only one open) in a phonebooth with my laptop watching DVDs. Note - If I took the red-eye over and the immediate return, it was over $350. So I did it. And I am now safely ensconed as a 1P again with elite checkin, elite security, pre-booked bulkhead and Exit Row seating, and a better shot at clearing upgrades. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |

Dupe.

United has lowered the status qualifying bar to new levels this year. Between the Great Offer and Double EQM offer it was possible to earn Premier Executive status by flying as little as 15,500 miles.
If you have been around for awhile, and had status for several years you will remember that it use to be that the only way to earn status was by actually flying. Considering how low the qualifying bar was set this year, I am glad that United is not moving it any further down. [This message has been edited by IK in Seattle (edited Jan 21, 2004).] |

I've noticed in it multiple posts and wondered if perhaps you intended some sort of double meaning or were simply unaware of the correct spelling? </font> Back in the day, I worked for AMC Theatres. Since they spelled the word that way, I've always used theatre instead of theater. I only spell theatre, centre, traveller, and colour to impress girls.

randolph2004, welcome to FT! I can also appreciate your frustration but M+ also knows from comments of 1Ps and 1Ks that lowering the bar more and more upsets the elites who earned their status levels. However United has been known to do targeted or broader "quick start" programs into the new year for those who are flying a lot and want to move up. No guarantee UA will do one in 2004 but if they do and you stay loyal to them, it might help you that way.
