$10 on a (comparatively) spendy ticket just seems petty.

But CO charges $6 or so on short domestic runs. So I guess this practice is going to stay for sometime.

If I'm travelling Y, I'm not too annoyed about paying another $10 for premium IFE (even if I've paid for a higher Y fare). BUT, I'd only pay it if there was a movie or two in the premium offer that actually I wanted to watch - it wouldn't be an automatic thing for me to buy up on the entertainment. I guess therefore that to snag more people, they may have to load the premium options and have the complementary offer somewhat restricted.

That said, if its always going to be complementary to 1Ks, I can live with that too! (and if so, congratulations to UA for actually being proactive and recognising status!)

I'd pay for some wireless.

Recycled and edited movies, not so much.

I absolutely won't pay a dime extra over my inflated-price UA/CO ticket.

I'll bring my own entertainment, or more likely, fly an airline with good, free, IFE (as I now do).

CO is forcing UA to become another Virgin America, but at sky high prices. It won't fly very well.

Up-charge for "Premium" On Demand Video in coach - UGGG!

My teens were thrilled to see individual, on demand video screens on our 10 hour transatlantic flight yesterday (777).

Their hopes of halfway decent entertainment were dashed when they saw that the interesting movie and tv options were only available for a $10/pp fee in the "premium" section (btw...premium even included 10 year old episodes of "Friends").

I guess $1800/ticket only entitles us to movies like "Aladdin" and "Life as we know it" and the only "Big Bang Theory" or "The Middle" episode I've viewed over and over on other UA flights.

And here we thought we had progressed from the years of charging for headphones. Bad policy leaves a sour taste!!! Arggg!

Had to take a trip to NRT last summer for work, and was on AA going over (ORD-NRT) and UA to IAD coming back (both 777 in Y). [Why I did it that way is a long story but I didn't have a choice in the arrangements!]

AA's IFE was far and above the ridiculous not-on-demand loops with about 5 movies to choose from, and faded grainy seatback screens, that AA had. On AA you had a variety of on-demand (well, had to sometimes wait 10 min for the restart but close enough for me) movies, TV, plus some basic video games that weren't bad. Not to mention the food was a bit better on AA and the aircraft seemed cleaner and less worn out. I can't imagine paying $10 OW for IFE unless it really was a kick-butt setup.

Of course UA had the advantage for me (1P) of free E+, lounge access at NRT, and of course the 100% RDM bonus. Which is trumps the crummy IFE for me at least...though next time I'm just going to borrow my 13 year old's iPod!

Lower expectations + iPad = better inflight entertainment

I have very low expectations for any IFE system. A nice tablet with my own entertainment library never fails. I really only want the IFE for the interactive maps.

But if the ticket price for non-"premium" IFE is $1800 and the "premium" IFE tix cost $1810, would you choose the $1810 price at time of booking? I think I would.

Outside of Ch. 9, UA's IFE is a joke. Embarrassing!

probably. The same reason people will walk 1 block more to buy a soda that's 10c cheaper, but not blink an eye when it's $1 more at a restaurant. Or for that matter, why they'll pay $1000 extra for a car GPS system that could be bought for $100.

Sell them things when the item looks cheap in comparison! (or when they're confused... or drunk... or trying to impress someone... or trying to avoid embarrassment...)

While I agree that it should be free, is a dollar an hour really that bad?

That's assuming you're not having any shut-eye, and watching TV for the entire 10 hours.

Yes, $1.00/hour is cheap/inexpensive but for me it's a matter of principle
