Ever since I saw the 1980 movie "Airplane", I rarely order fish on a plane anymore.

Most United wines are only appropriate as mouthwash.

I know this should be in the stupidest/least substantive thread, but ...
Yesterday, DEN-HNL, in F. A very uninspired (DEN-based) crew, but nothing terrible. The FA comes through the cabin taking lunch orders with: "Chicken or Fish?" Nothing more. The guy in front of me asks--"What's the difference?" The FA says: "The chicken comes with potatoes, the fish with rice." I then ask: "How are they prepared?" The FA says: "The chicken is macadamia crusted, the fish (I think he said mahi) comes with a hoisin sauce." Is it really too much to expect the person taking orders in F to say something like: "We have a macadamia-crusted chicken breast, or mahi mahi with hoisin sauce?" as opposed to: "Chicken or fish?" [I had the chicken. It was actually quite good. :)] |
reminds me of an old joke:-
Waiter - 'specials tonight are venison and chicken'. Customer - 'what's the difference?' Waiter - 'well, one's deer, and one's cheep' |

I had a similar experience recently, but being lactose-intolerant, they are not going to get an answer that easily out of me. I need to know whether something is doused in cream or cheese, otherwise I'm in for some gastro-hell. And in case anyone is wondering, there is no non-dairy special meal. Even Asian vegetarian ("limited use of dairy products" - yeah right) doesn't cut it most of the time, and vegan meals are full of beans. As long as they explain what's in the dishes, I can always find something workable.
It's also just so much classier to be asked "Mrs. GLR, today for lunch we have.... what is your first choice?" (and I don't mind being asked for my first choice because I always seem to get it). |

That is alot more than I got on a recent LAX-ORD flt. FA came by and said "Wanna an omelet"? Nothing more nothing less.

My favorite was a couple of years ago: FA approaches me in F with "You gonna eat?"
On the flip side of that, I enjoyed the, ah, elegant F experience provided by the FA on a CRJ awhile back. Rather than simply asking if we wanted a snack box, he asked with a straight face, "Are you dining with us today?" :) |

On a trip a few weeks ago, I was amused when asked "rubber chicken or fish bones"? I have spoken with this FA a few times before, so we both laughed.
