UAL.COM - Refund E-Ticket Option - Great!!
I bought a ticket last night that I decided overnight I really didn't want to use. I had heard about the 24 hour rule for online purchases and 100% no fee refunds, but had never tried it.
I called ual.com support and was walked through the online e-ticket refund process to request the refund. It was simple and straightforward. Nice feature, UAL.COM. |

The policy, though formally stated as 24 hours, is 11:59 on the day after you purchase. Either on-line or on the phone.
I'd be interested in how long it takes on-line, as I've always been able to 86 a ticket booked on-line on the telephone within those timeframes, and it's a very quick process (assuming you have your record number). Easy. |
Sorry - the details are fairly simple. Just select the E-Ticket Refund link off the UAL.Com homepage (its under the Travel Support column). Enter your ticket number It'll confirm the itinerary and then you can cancel it. It'll show you a page similar to your purchase confirmation showing the refund amount.
There is a note that its eligible for an audit review but that makes sense for their protection. |
To be clear, it doesn't matter whether you purchased your ticket on-line, in person or over the phone. The 24-hour cancellation rule aplies.

Iluv2fly: Can you use the website to request the refund regardless of method of purchase?
|
You should be able to, but since it's ual.com...
|
Hopefully this is a sign that United will eventually offer an "unused travel funds" feature similar to SWA where you can apply funds from cancelled trips to new itineraries booked on the website. Ditto for those worthless paper travel vouchers that are issued when the fare drops.

This feature has been there for a long time. If you refund a ticket immediately after purchase, the refund usually appears 2-3 days AFTER the charge appears on the credit card.

Well, since it was on the home page and too obvious, I didn't see it before.... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Kathy - good link. I'm horrible about checking the help option or reading instructions -- amazing what I can learn. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
