Weird Upgrade Code Question

I'm booked on a SFO-LHR-SFO trip next weekend. Outbound is upgraded to C via SweetSpot. Return was upgrade waitlisted. Now my itineraries shows this "KL"under the waitlist with a message to call in printed in red. I called in, was told it was just to confirm my upgrade. . . but no upgrade seat shows on the return and the confirmed seat hasn't changed, and the upgrade waitlist notation remains on the screen below the confirmed economy listing.

What does this mean??

Incidentally, someone also listed the waitlist as "upgrade to first"???? I don't want to jinx it, but is this possible??

KL means you cleared the waitlist (I recently learned this myself). However, instead of calling the 1-800 number for united.com that shows on the My Inin screen, you should call the 1K number to confirm it and get a seat assigned. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

And if you don't call United within a relatively short period of time, you will lose that KL status and you'll be back on the waitlist.

I haven't been able to sort out when a waitlist clears and when it instead goes to KL status.

But it is a reason to check your itineraries periodically.

Well, I called in. But the agent discovered that it was a double upgrade. She put me back on the C waitlist and left(I think) the first wait list in place, just to see what happens.

This could be very interesting. Any suggestions??

UA's computers are not completely idiot proof.

I recently flew an ORD-LHR routing wherein the agent at ORD assigned me 1A on ALL of my flights (keep in mind this was a $350 ticket after paying with a $200 bump voucher). So as a smart FTer, I just let her assign the NF seat. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

About a week before the trip, UA did some rearranging in my itinerary (some back to NC), but I did wind up getting NF out of LHR (with a big grin on my face and a chatterbox mouth at LHR check-in to distract the agent as much as possible!).

So it can happen. If you're still on the XF list and it clears again, I would be a bit more assertive and ask the agent to put you in C since you were not on the correct list all along. But don't get nasty--that only leads to mean messages in your PNR. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
