UA touts Channel 9 as a marketing differential from other airlines. If they don't get the pilots on board with whats real and whats not, Channel 9 will become an endangered species.

Asked FA, who said "Ch9 is always off now because of the terrorists." I said that the captain of my previous flight didn't get that memo, and "a pilot" told me that is was still at the captain's discretion. She said she'd ask and never came back.

Channel 9 on flight 614 is playing easy listening music! Normally when atc is not available, ch. 9 is silent. Any ideas on what's going on? Am going to request ch. 9 but I'm not so sanguine.
The unavailability of ch 9 makes me think about using AA for some of my flights to/from ord...

like that, anyhow. My MO is to ask for Ch9 if there's dead air on the channel;
I've learned not to even try when the fake music is on.
