No problem, but because you'll be combining two type Bs expect the agent to fumble for a while figuring out how to do it.

Any hints on how to do two type Bs that I can nicely suggest to the agent?

If you don't hear from me tomorrow, you'll know what happened to me at ORD this evening! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

The phrase "multiple forms of payment" might help. You'll have three (assuming int'l): the DBC for its face value, the certificate for the equivalent of 15% of the base fare (before deducting the DBC) and (presumably) a credit card for the additional collection.

*Sometimes* on international tickets they've added together the face-value of the DBC and the implicit value of the other certificate. They've then told the computer that the first (DBC) certificate had this (total) value, so I paid the balance with my credit card. They then put the other certificate number in the endorsements box. Something tells me the back office doesn't like it when they do it this way, but it's happened at least twice.

Thanks for all your help, vdb seeker. Here's what I'm looking at purchasing:

ORD-LHR for $662.78
Minus 15% = $563.36
Minus 4 VDBs @ $50/each = $363.36 to be put on my Visa.

Am I correct in this thinking?? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Yes, unless the 662.78 includes taxes. The 15% off applies to the pre-tax fare. On tickets to LHR, that can be significant. If the 662.78 includes 100.00 in taxes, you'd add $15 to the 363.36 you'd be putting on your Visa. Let us know how you do!

By the way, the "4" VDB pages just get entered as one for $200. You'll notice that they all have the same serial number, with 4 different coupon numbers. They just enter the serial number once and confirm "all" coupons (or specify 1/2/3/4.)

Just send me your Visa number (don't forget the expiration date too) and I'll try to help you out.

Here's the update.

I try to use the 15% off. The agent has difficulty getting the system to act appropriately. She calls her "help desk." They figger it out.

I go to pay, she says "you want to use vouchers and credit card then?" As if it were no big deal at all!! Luck was with me. I did not have to explain anything ONCE!

It gets better--I go to do the upgrades from Y to F/C. She puts me in F for the transatlantic portions. Question...do I keep those assignments and get lucky, or do I call back and get the C seat that I want?

Just curious, what is the number at the bottom left of your e-ticket receipt for total airfare? Is that the full airfare amount or after the 15% discount?

With the 15% discount, the fare wound up being $465. US Taxes are 30.62, other taxes of $87.48. $583.10 total fare.

Thanks. When I had it done in a similar situation, the total fare shown was after the 15% discount also. If you have to apply this ticket to another ticket which I did, the 15% will not be carried over to the next ticket. In other words, 15% discount cannot be used twice.

I had two tickets issued yesterday at SFO using Friends Plus 15% off certs. The ticket prices at the bottom left of the e-ticket receipts were the full fare before the discount. Does anyone know why sometimes it shows the fare after the discount? What is the correct way of showing the total fare, before or after the discount?

For domestic, it should be after the discount (a lower number). For international, it should be before the discount (a higher number). The former is the result of type A (a discount), and the latter is the result of type B (the equivalent of a form of payment, against which the ticket is "exchanged.")

Thanks for the clarification, vdb seeker. My two tickets were int'l tickets.

Does anyone have the text of the PMO/Tennis F2003 profile?

I too would like to combine this on an int'l itin with some vdb vouchers. (So in this case it would be as 2 Type B's.)

I decided to call and ask, and the agent could not find anything in the profile as an exception, although she did not read it to me. She said she also checked with the rate desk and they also said no, but I do not know if she understood what the VDB vouchers are.

I have had enough instances at the DFW ticket counter that I'd rather not go without a reference to point them too.

Thanks,
BillJ
