UA and CO Boards and (as of 9/18/10) shareholders OK merger

Looks like the United board has (unsurprisingly) approved the merger. Waiting on CO now:

How long will it take for the merger to be approved by the DOJ. I saw with Delta the merger was announced in April and the shareholders didn't vote until September. Is this the same path we will see with the CO-UA merger? Also what do people believe will happen with GS. Will the level of spend required to get an invite be lowered?

Timeline for Delta is here:

http://www.startribune.com/business/80446977.html

Essentially it was:
  • 5 months after announcement to get Shareholder approval
  • 6 months to get DOJ approval and immediately consummate the merger
  • 11 months to start combining airport ops and signage
  • 18 months to get to FF program integration

+1 Well said.

Wow! That's a long slog.

I'm excited about the prospect. I know fares will likely go up across the board, but I'm so tired of looking over my shoulder (the fear of United filing bankruptcy again) and trying to quickly burn miles just to stay "safe".

The new airline will be healthy. We just have to hope we get the best of UA and CO - each has great qualities to offer.

If you have not had the privilege to check out the CO board on the merger, I encourage you to take a look. There are a lot of immature bozos over there that really don't want this thing to do through. Boy, are they going to be disappointed on Monday!

More importantly, I sure hope that the Mileage Plus format to our forums survives the CO nonsense. It looks like some 75% or so of their posts falls into one thread called "Penalty Box". Give me a break.

In addition, they have more than 1 thread discussing the merger. It seems that each day a few more pop up. I propose that the UA mods are kept on as mods of the combined airline thread!!

This story has some details: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/...s/6986235.html

Interesting to see they're (for now) are keeping all hubs. Surprising to me. I guess time with tell.
