Amen to that! While i certainly prefer CO to US, United as a stand-alone is my first choice. Airline mergers suck for Frequent Fliers, been there done that.

Now, I hope that the UA/CO thing happens quickly or they decide not to merge. If the decision is not to merge, then I would hope that the UA Board puts management in place that focuses on running the best possible independent United Airlines...for the good of customers, shareholders and employees. Focus on the operation, compete aggressively and we'll all win!

I too would prefer CO over a US merger if it ever comes to fruition

I would prefer a hot poker in the eye to a US merger.

Alternatively, you could simply hit this LINK. (Be aware!! OMNI alert!! )

The overall effect would be the same and you don't even need a hot poker!!

Gee, really makes me wonder why so many people expended so much energy on scenarios/contingency plans/what does this all mean/existentialism speculation when we never really knew anything. The end of these talks is the only thing we ever knew for sure.

I am glad to hear US got dumped from the prospects of a merger although it seems it was US who decided to end it with UA.

Best news I've heard in a long time. United may not be perfect, but it's a lot better than US.

Initial response is #1. Of course nothing has been publicized yet, so it's all speculation. In any case, sounds and feels much better than a hook up with US.
CO has a pretty efficient operation and like WN maintained an exclusive relationship with Boeing, cutting down on maintenance cost. On the surface it looks as if both operations complement each other much better with CO's strength to Europe and UA's to Asia. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Looks like US is the scorned lover (well, love interest)... and walked out of the club with egg on her face feeling used and abused.

UA now has a more pretty girl to dance with... now will UA be able to convince the hotter girl to go all the way?

Or will UA walk home alone, again... and have US laugh at UA's misery?
