YEAH BABY YEAH! At least CO is a well run company, and there is no guarantee that a CO-UA merger will happen either, but it would be a much better alternative than a merger with US.

I will go with #1. While at first the idea sounded good, the elite perqs are just too different. Shall I say, non-existent with US. I am UA 1K and US GP, and I have altered my fliying over the last year to fly more on UA. US has reduced the F-class seating in 757 from 7 rows to 2, and now is charging elites for "choice seating" on an RJ (there is no choice seating).

Sign me up for #1 as well - the talk of a UA/US merger had me going overboard.

You have to feel a bit bad for US - caught up as the stalking horse in this deal, now too ugly for anyone. Makes one wonder what the impact is going to be on their long term survival.

I don't think that US officially backing away takes the heat off CO to move ahead with the merger. Parker stated publicly in the walk away press release that they intend to be active participants in any industry consolidation. I think CO is smart enough to know that US would gladly take up talks with UA again...probably in a heartbeat.

great news!!!

This is my order of preference of merger/no merger

1. UA and CO
2. UA on it's own
3. (and way way down) UA and US/LCC

So freakin happy about this.

And if UA and CO do dance, they get what they deserve, too... aside from the DL/CO merger, how many other mergers have truly been successful?

Just thinking out loud here, would CO ever consider merging with US? Could US have left talks with UA because CO started talking to them? I feel like that would create some major problems for UA.
