upgrade waitlisted for the wrong flight - again!

just a word of caution to check "my itineraries" after you request your upgrades. twice in the last week i have bought tickets and requested upgrades, only to find later on that i was waitlisted on the wrong flight.

first i got waitlisted for upgrad on ua958 when i was traveling on ua928!

then i got waitlisted for upgrades on ua838 and ua852 on the 20th of december when i was travelling on another date.

the danger it would seem that if you didn't figure it out until you got to the airport, you might find yourself on the bottom of the waitlist, or worse find the waitlist was closed altogether...so check check check :-)

That has happened to me too - I got a call to let me know an upgrade had cleared and I replied with "I wasn't even booked on that flight".

You can also request upgrade/s online if that option is available. Often times, it is not for some unknown reason. If there is a flight change by UA which happens sometimes, your upgrade request does not carry over to the new flight automatically. Yes, check your UA itinerary online often.

Something wierd has been going on with UA's upgrade software recently. For my wife's flight last week, when the upgrade window came, her status switched from "Upgrade requested" to "Upgrade Denied" (not waitlisted), which I've never seen before. I called for her, and the agent said that they had been having problems with the waitlists, and that she couldn't do anything to help. I called back the next day, and the agent was then able to confirm the upgrade on the spot, and sounded as puzzled as I was about the upgrade denied message...

Does someone else book your flights? I've gotten upgrade notifications for flights that were reserved but never ticketed. The TA had started an itinerary, had to abandon it because my plans changed, but had not yet deleted it.
