UA Miles - Star Alliance Saver Award US to South Asia via the Atlantic
Star Alliance Saver Award US to South Asia via the Atlantic using UA miles -
1. How many miles? I'm focusing primarily on premium cabins.
2. Success in booking and routings?

I've been informed that the Europe-South Asia INDIRECT miles will apply: 90/135/170
2. Can't comment as I haven't booked an itinerary myself.

The one exception to this is (that I have been able to utilize) if you take the JFK to SIN SQ direct flight, with no stopover in Europe, you can get it at the lower "pacific" rate (65/125/145). It is pretty restrictive, and if you go that way you have to come back that way.

UA Mileage Star Alliance success - MCO/BKK
Despite my pessimism, called 2 days consecutive and got a very helpful and inventive UA Gold agent on 2nd try - could slide 3 days on departure and return during early/mid Aug2010 - but not completely flexible. Got S Asia rates and used 145K UA Miles for the following itinerary:
8/6 - MCO-FRA on Lufth 1st
8/7 - FRA-CAI on Egypt Bus.
8/7 - CAI-BKK on Egypt 1st
8/18 - BKK-FRA on Thai Air Bus.
8/19 - FRA-MCO on Lufth 1st
I'm thrilled with this "Bourne" itinerary and will have from 7pm 8/18 until 2pm 8/19 in Frankfurt! UA Mileage plus website - 130,000 miles for coach seats on UAL planes only. It's just important to call on consecutive days until the SA award availability opens up. If full fare passenger, this itinerary would cost over $18K USD - the MCO-FRA 1st is over $15K by itself.

I've done this last December from IAD to SIN via FRA. Paid 145k.
Having said that, if I want to go thru middle-east, IAD-DXB-SIN-FRA-IAD, is 160k.

Yup. My routing was IAD-FRA-SIN then, SIN-HKG(one night and one day stay)-MUC-IAD.
I was initially booked IAD-DXB-SIN-DXB-IAD with 160k miles, no stop overs but changed it to the Europe route at the last minute. I had to pay a fee to change it but I received my miles back and got to experience SA's J classes (spacebed and regional seats) and LH's F class.
And, also got to see Hong Kong (never been there) for a day.

Another Star Alliance Saver success - MP S Asia
Well, this is a great discovery. My wife and I shuttle from FL to Thailand in an extreme commuter marriage. The SA awards are unbeatable and I'm now 2 for 2 (see earlier post). This time, my wife will fly BKK-MCO Business Class for
125K MP miles:
BKK-Tokyo on ANA Business
Tokyo-SFO on ANA Business
SFO-MCO on UA 1st
MCO-LAX UA waitlist 1st
LAX-BKK Thai Air Business
Just under $5K USD if pd on UA, but get the considerably better service on ANA and TG flights for $78 in tax and 125K MP miles. Got it on the 1st call. BTW, the UA MP website when searching awards now has a SA award search option online (new) - though it showed no availability online, I just called and got my SA award on my dates, 1st call with no problem. I'll stop my commentary at this point.
