Does anyone know if I can get UA miles and EQM on Virgin Atlantic?

I am flying next week on CO 9706 JFK - LHR. It's a Continental codeshare with Virgin Atlantic.

Does anyone know if I can get UA miles and EQM now that Continental is part of *A?

Finally, a decent *A option from NYC to LHR -- there hasn't been one since UA ended it's JFK-LHR flight a few years ago.

no its the operating carrier that matters, and since Virgin isn't part of *A or a UA partner you can't get miles.

ryan is correct - no miles for VS flights, regardless of codeshare.

VS comes up because it is a BD partner which shows up on ITA periodically.

United EQM with CO via Virgin Atlantic

Hi,

I'm wondering if I use my UA ff# on a Continental airlines flight that is operated by Virgin Atlantic--will I get EQM for United or will I get it for CO?

You will not get EQMs on a flight operated by Virgin Atlantic.
You only get EQMs on flights operated by star alliance airlines.

If you use your Continental FF # and the flight is sold as a CO codeshare, then you will get EQM's.

Depends on the fare class, too.

On CO, NOT on UA, yet at least.

The partner of my partner is not my partner, unless it is an alliance partner. And, some would say, unless the alliance partner is not SQ.

Yet, I do earn 125% EQM with Virgin PE on US. Why does UA not do this?

Because United is not partnered with Virgin. CO and US have special partnership arrangements with Virgin... I would expect the CO partnership to be terminated very soon after the merger goes through (maybe it's already been announced..not sure).

Sigh, I wish they'd reconsider this. Virgin seems to have agreements with half the Star Alliance, but snubs UA. Virgin is the only airline with any linkage to *A that has frequent and convenient direct flights from NYC to LHR. (I'd settle for BA but they seem to have given up competing with Virgin).
