Dec '09 UA Security Procedures-Any operational changes on DOMESTIC flights? [Merged]

Moderator note: FlyerTalk's Travel Safety/Security forum has an extensive discussion on new travel policies after the DL AMS->DTW flight. Please discuss there any general matters about these new rules. This thread is meant to be a discussion of specific UA situations and experiences on the new policies. Please help us keep this open by limiting the discussion to updating the UA experience or other related discussion focused specifically on UA. Thanks, the United Moderation team.

For INTERNATIONAL United flights, please use the following thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...ts-merged.html

Has anyone flown PS C over the last couple days and have any reports on IFE or wifi availability? I realize JFK-LAX is not international, but with all the rumors flying around, I just want to be as prepared as possible for my flight this Weds. (May need to perfect my staring off into space skills...)

Im curious about this as well. I have an upcoming transcon, one on PS, the return not PS and am wondering what they are doing. If they are shutting off stuff, doing the 1 hour drill and such I may switch to AA of they arent doing the same, or consider canceling altogether if all carriers are doing it.

Any operational changes on DOMESTIC flights? ( PS, transcons, Hawaii) [Merged]

Looking for any first hand experience about the 1 hour bathroom freeze and IFE inactivation (or map inactivation) on domestic flights. There were some sporadic reports from Friday and Saturday about new policies on domestic flights (at least some of them) and was wondering what people are seeing out there. Thanks.

I thought the 1-hour thing was for inbound international flights only.

And the IFE should also be working as UA has been sending out e-mails apologizing for the loss of IFE on international flights also.

i'm curious about this as well.

my parents are headed to hawaii in january...although to be fair, by mid january when they're traveling the rules will likely have changed yet again.

UA is now selling Depends before and immediately after offering the snack boxes for sale...Also, no water or liquids of any kind may be given 3 hours prior to arrival....

Just kidding...

Seriously, I am supposed to go to Maui in January, and am curious what ridiculous "rules for my safety" will be in effect.

I was on yesterday's flight #1 from ORD-HNL. There wasn't much more security at ORD than in prior weeks but the in-flight map was turned off so you couldn't monitor the flight path. Also, normally the pilots announce the path of flight to Honolulu but this was not done. There was no ATC on channel 9 either.

Our flight left about 90 minutes late due to mechanical issues and we arrived at 5pm to beautiful and warm weather. It was great coming home to Honolulu after leaving the snow and cold of Chicago.

I'm wondering about this as well as I'm flying HNL-DEN next week. Teeejay, were you allowed to use blankets/pillows for the last hour of flight?

So far so good; at check in they promise blankets as well as IFE - but that may change when we board

I'd be shocked if they took away the PS players, since they're disconnected devices that don't show any maps.

What in-flight map? On this flight which normally uses a domestic 772?

Those player are made by Archos. I really like them, so much that I bought my own, but it's a different model, the "Internet Media Tablet". With the addition of Go-Go to PS, the unit I have is a blast, and between movies, email, and posting on FT, the time really flies by ^

Some of the models have GPS functions. Not the one I have, or at least I don't think it does.
