Discrepency between EQM and Miles earned?

When I look at my account summary online I see that year to date I have 51438 EQM but when I add up all of my UA and Star alliance miles to date this year I have only 46568 miles. Where are the roughly 5000 miles are coming from? I thought EQM can only be earned on United and Star Alliance. Also is there a way to check if I have hit Premier Exec for the next year already?

Thanks as always.

Did you ever fly a Y/B economy or buy a first or business class ticket? Those all have a 50% EQM BONUS. Did you sign up for the double EQM promo?

Some possibilities that come to mind:

Double EQM Promo - did you register for it?

Class of Service Bonus (Full Fare Economy, Business, or First) - Did you book any travel in it or were rerouted/rescheduled on flights and put in these higher fare buckets?

If your EQM says "51438", then you have hit 1P for next year.

If you look at your itemized list of redeemable miles for the year, look for flights marked with a "*"; those earned a 50% "class of service" bonus for being booked in F/A/C/D/Z/Y/B. Upgrading won't (usually) put you in F or C buckets (you'll still earn the normal EQM for your flight), but being rebooked during irrops can often put you in full Y and thus earn that 50% EQM bonus.

See if you have any of those flights and factor in the bonus (which does NOT typically double under DEQM, mind you; such flights will earn 2.5x, not 3x, EQM).

Thanks. Very helpful as always.

Also remember, if you book tickets at ua.com, the cost of the tickets post as EQM's with a maximum of 5000 EQM's in a year. Did you buy $5000 or more worth of tickets online?

If you use the MP Visa, that is (and does it have to be the platinum Visa? I don't recall).

Only Platinum Card in the past, but the new Triple Miles card does also.

I reactivated my UA account about two years ago and with all the DEQMs this year my EQM total is much larger than my regular earnings on UA. Kind of bizarre to see my UA lifetime miles less than just this years EQMs, but c'est la vie!
