ANA, United, Continental Look To Merge Japan-U.S. Ops

TOKYO (Nikkei)--All Nippon Airways Co. (9202) has decided to integrate its Japan-U.S. passenger operations with those of major U.S carriers United Airlines and Continental Airlines, The Nikkei has learned.

The three Star Alliance partners expect the move, which might go into effect next fall, to raise efficiency, reduce costs and boost earnings.

There was also mention of this in a recent Hemispheres. Basically, a similar agreement to what UA, LH, and now CO have entered into with trans-Atlantic flights.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them up all NH flights to 100% EQM/RDM in Y, but wouldn't expect them to do the elite bonus like on LH any time soon. Regardless, 31" pitch on NH is enough to keep me with UA E+ regardless of an elite bonus with NH.

Their new Y (debuting Feb. 2010 on their NRT-JFK) will feature 34".

And what about using SWU on NH? That would be something worth looking forward to.

So does this mean we will be losing more UA aircraft to NRT? That would really suck!

Lifetime miles don't really mean anything unless you actually have a legitimate shot at 1MM.

+1. And with e500s going away, the only reason to definitely fly UA metal is for CR-1s

At 925000 I have a shot.

And if you don't fly UA you will never have a shot.

OnePass counts all EQM, including DEQM, as lifetime miles, regardless of carrier flown. So if you credit to CO...

I wonder if you'll actually be able to redeem MP points on flights on CO or NH or if everything will be *Net blocked

What would suck would be losing the onward connections on UA metal out of NRT.

Hopefully the BKK, SIN, and TPE tag on's don't get lost to NH chdeshares.
