? on using miles to S. America....help needed
 

I am going to use miles to get to Florinapolis, Brazil for a race in late May.

I would like anyones help in offering up another stopover city (Rio, Buenos Aires, Santiago??) that i could included after the race for four or 5 days that UA or Varig would fly to.

Any help or input would be greatly appreciated.

It depends on what you'll be claiming your UA miles for :

a) RG only-award
b) *Alliance award


Assuming you're leaving from NYC you can claim an RG award where you can have a stop either at Rio or Sao Paulo. Changing dates probably no charge or a 25 USD maximum...

*A award enable you a stop-over but not changing dates after your travel starts. SCL wouldn't be possible from my perspective as you'd have to fly Varig from SCL and detour to Sao Paulo to get to your final destination, which is FLN. However you can be creative with Manaus or Belem: JFK-UA-MIA-RG-MAO/BEL(stopover)-RG-GRU/GIG(day at Copacabana)-FLN
