Checked baggage/separate itineraries
I have a flight SFO to ORD next Wed that was booked though work. I have a separate itinerary from ORD to FWA the same day which I bought myself to visit in-laws for Thanksgiving. Can I check a bag all the way to FWA even though when I check in in SFO I will only be checking in to the SFO to ORD flight? In the worst case I can have my wife check it as her itin is all inclusive. Also - I assume I can just print my BP inside of security without having to exit and come back through?
Thanks |

In general, yes you can check your bag through; just make sure to let the SFO checkin agent know about your other itinerary before your bag is tagged to ORD and disappears down the belt.
The only exception is if your other flight is on a different airline AND it's a carrier with which UA has no interline baggage agreement. (Major legacy carriers are fine; a charter operator or a niche carrier like JetBlue might not be). |
You can call and have them link your PNR's so that when you check in, the agent might not have to do anything special

Interlining Baggage on 2 seperate intineraries
Oh wise Flyertalk Sages,
Much like the OP I am flying from ORD to ISB on two tickets. My first two legs , ORD-IST and IST-DXB are on an UA MP FC award ticket on TK. My third leg, DXB-ISB is on PK and a separate ticket. These two tickets are not combined on one PNR. I have flown on UA IAD-DXB and checked bags all the way thru to ISB with an interline to PK but I bought the two tickets from a Travel Agent that was able to combine the two tickets on one PNR. I am begging for some solid info here based on experience or what you've heard... Provided TK and PK have an interline baggage agreement, and considering I am flying FC on TK, what are my chances of getting TK to check my bags all the way to ISB via my connecting PK flight ?? Should I call TK or UA to combine the two tickets on one PNR ? Would I have a better chance calling UA 1k reservations to combine the two tickets into one PNR ?? You wise counsel is most greatly appreciated. |

Sorry
Sorry, I am working from a computer in an airport lounge at ISB. I did not mean to triple post; the connection kept timing out on my post.
