UAL.COM now showing fare basis and booking code
This must be new, but on the page that shows your itin and price (after you have chosen your flights), but before you go on to buying a ticket, now shows the Fare Basis and booking code on the right of every segment. This is where it also shows if it is a sale fare, and class of service etc...
Welcome new feature imo. Ex. Class: Coach Fare Basis Code: VA14NX Booking Class: V Fare Rules (edited to add the example) [This message has been edited by Pacha (edited 10-23-2002).] |
Good stuff! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thumbsup.gif
Next step would be to allow booking by fare class. |
This is an outstanding improvement! Way to go UA!

cool... must pretend to fly somewhere now...

I recently booked a ticket through ual.com and my booking class was W but the easy access machine at SFO and SEA airports spit the bording passes that says my class is "Y" I was really happy since I can get double miles for that segment for the class "Y" in addition to some other classes other than W.
But after couple of days when I checked my account summary..I didn't see any double miles posted..and also the class now says "K" as opposed to "Y" or "W".. I guess..the booking class is different from the class you actually fly..and the double miles are based on only the booking class. Anyway, I hope to get 1000 points since I used easy access machine at both SFO and SEATTLE...It was just a breeze to use that..you have to swipe the credit card you used to book the ticket and enter the destination airport code..that's it.. |

I still find myself using www.united.ca
Reason: It shows you the fare right after you type in where you’re going (as opposed to www.united.com where they show you the fares after you select the time). Incidentally, www.united.ca has also been showing the fare classes where www.united.com is - so united.ca still has a slight edge over united.com It is a nice feature. For example: 239 CAD - almost always the W or S fares. 269 CAD - usually W or V. 329 CAD - Could be a H fare. 399 CAD - Definitely one of the Y/M/B/H's. Now, if they could JUST show me the fare classes along with the fares.... |
Thank you United!
|
Wiggums... Thank you sooooo much. That feature of the website you talk about on United.ca is the one thing I miss so much about teh US version. They used to do it on the united.com site, but then one day they got rid of that. I wrote to UAL and they responded witht eh usual b.s. about how "most customers find the new view less confusing." I wrote back asking what was so confusing about having 5 options listed sorted by the price which is clearly listed out . They responded again saying that they always list the cheapest option first and that the change was made based on customer feedback.

<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2"> Now, if they could JUST show me the fare classes along with the fares....</font> I can call UA and say "How much is a H class ticket BOS-LHR on date x returning date y?" I get a dollar figure. Then I ask, "Is there upgrade space, using miles, in C on these flights?" If there are, I buy and I upgrade. If not I query the agent to look for alternate flights that do have upgrade space. I am using a human and a phone to query a database - this is a waste of my time and UAs money. Let me query the (expletive deleted) database directly!!! UA needs three modes of operation for ual.com: "novice", "advanced", and "stone cold FT superuser"! |
Just give me "place reservation on hold" already. Then I could pick flights and choose seats and all those other time-consuming things before calling a human to ticket in a higher booking class generating more revenue for United. Why do they have such trouble understanding this?
|
Now, let's be bold with United. In addition to showing booking codes next to fares, the web should have an international buy and upgrade page.
The page could show flights that have NC or NF availability along with the least cost fare that allows for an upgrade. Then, you could buy the ticket and upgrade at the same time - online. |
or simply put - why not add a option to the booking menu called "lowest upgradable fare" (ok, might need clarification for SWU or miles) ?? Showing the fare basis for what you have selected is totally useless if your aren't given a choice to see other ones.
