Log into the United Japanese site, www.unitedairlines.co.jp using the same MP number and password for the regular U.S. site (www.united.com), there is an option of "award checker". (The site is only in Japanese).
There is an award chart of how many awards one can claim for each type of award, e.g. if you have 400,000 miles balance, then you can claim 10 economy, or 6 business, or 5 first class standard award for intra-asia travel. Same chart exists for saver and upgrade award.
That's a pretty neat feature
Maybe it will be implemented in the U.S. site too ?

Don't speak Japanese, but I believe a working calculator and knowledge of short/long division, (whilst looking at the chart on the web site) should suffice.
