Access to E+

If a Premier member is travelling in C, and a family member is travelling with them in Y, can the Premier member use their status to put the passenger in Y, in E+? If yes, if they are on 2 different PNRs, can it be done beforehand, or only at the airport at check in?

thanks

uhhh, normally no unless the ticket is full fare. Wouldn't hurt to ask when you check in though.

If you both book Y seats together, and only request the upgrade for one (and receive the upgrade), then the other one would presumably get to keep their Y+ seat?

Great quote, but I can't get the link to complete. What split infinitive---that's a comma fault.

This is so pathetic. On AA you wouldn't have to worry about it!

I'm really surprised that UA hasn't been sued over this. They advertise their Economy Plus as if it applies to all pax on all flights. Everyone here in the UA forum knows that is patently false.

I don't believe it will happen if they are on two different PNR's. The second person has no status if it's a different PNR. Not sure how it would work if you were on the same PNR and sitting in E+ and upgraded, but the assumption would be they can stay.

If it's a different PNR, they never would have been able to get a seat up in E+

I believe your mistaken in your understanding of E+ and it's advertising.

From UAL.com:
Economy Plus is an exclusive area of six to 11 rows (depending on fleet type) in the forward portion of the United EconomySM cabin with up to 5 inches more legroom. Premier® members, Star Gold and Star Silver members and customers traveling on fares booked in Y, B or M class will be eligible to receive a pre-assigned seat in Economy Plus on a first-come, first-served basis.

Well, first of all, they say that it's available to selected customers on a space available basis. And second, do you really think someone wants to sue based on a few inches of legroom?

That actually made me laugh out loud. I'm quite certain that United airlines has been sued for much less.

Yes, it can be done, and beforehand, with personal experience as testament. (FYI, I'm 1K, SO is not even Premier, and in fact still hasn't even received her plastic MP card yet as we're migrating our household from CO/NW to UA/Star Alliance).

The only problem I've run into is getting us into exit row seats in E+; the seats are there; I'm fine for them, but she's not, even though we're travelling together. We're on split records; asking UA to link the records won't even work.

It's frustrating, but in the big scheme of things, it's minor, not the least since we're in E+ anyway.

I am a P in UMP and, using miles, booked online for SAN-DEN for economy (E+). Pretty full flight. Gave my PNR to my girlfriend and sent her off to the local United office to buy a ticket for herself(discount economy). Told her to say 'this is my boyfriend, he is P,he gave me this PNR - can I sit beside him?. The agent had to make a phone call but within a minute she said 'yes' and we were both pre-assigned E+.
