combining accounts not allowed?

I'm a few miles short of what I need to get vacation tickets for the whole family (I need 300K, I have 275).

Between the wife and kids, I have enough miles to cover the difference, but I'm unable to combine these with the ones in my account according to the rep at Mileage Plus.

Is this truly not possible or am I just not trying hard enough? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

BTW, it must be the economy - in the past, I'd buy the tickets and try to figure out how to max the miles posted to my account instead :-)

Sorry, but you're out of luck. If one of your fasmily members has enough miles for one of the tickets on their own, fine--but you won't be able to combine miles from accounts.

if you only miss a few miles, agents may allow you to go negativ.

Another thought is transferring miles through other loyalty programs. I recall reading about some programs that do not differentiate between family members.

You can also buy the miles online as a last resort.

I, too, wish you could combine accounts, BUT...Combining husband and wife becomes immediate family (whatever that is), then the son who does not live at home (at college, married with kids...??). What about "partners"?

Some programs allow husband and wife to use points together (Hyatt) or combine accounts (Hilton), but the domestice airlines seem somewhat afar on these benefits.

At one time or another we both had enough for a couch ticket, but only one of us had enough for business or First (enough when combined-only when combined- for both of us to travel in the upgraded area) but we have not been allowed to even do that.
