No fuss was made when I hit the MM mark. But two weeks ago, a friend had the purser come greet and thank him on the leg where he crossed the MM threshold - EWR to SFO.

For sure on main line the the crews know you are passing a milestone, up to them if they act or not,I guess they would have to let the front office know.

I passed mine on LHR LAX. The purser gave me a glass of Champagne from Business Class. Very nice touch.

My 1MM flight changed 3 times within the last 48 hours before departure due to changes in my business travel... happened on LAX-EWR, and it was just a normal red-eye flight. No recognition whatsoever. I wasn't really looking for it though...

Thanks everyone! Looks like my MM flight will be my short UA Express or return from DTW to EWR. Unless something else comes up. Funny thing is, if United hadn’t emailed me to tell me I was getting close, I’d have no idea.
Congrats to you all, too!

Full disclosure: I am not yet in the MM club. (So, mods y'all may wish to move this post. )
But I did just check in at the UC in SAT and was handed a small bag with a(n admittedly not-so-fancy-looking pen) and a note from my "United team at the San Antonio airport" congratulating me on MM status ... which I will hit on leg #2 of this trip (SAT-ORD-LAX all upgraded to F). I really appreciate just even the note; I wasn't expecting any recognition of the milestone. But it's a really nice way to start off this trip home!

So, just to confirm: I flew my 1,000,000th mile ORD-LAX yesterday. There was no recognition on either flight (i.e. SAT-ORD or ORD-LAX), but the note from the ground staff at SAT was all I needed (which is fortunate because the service in F on the ORD-LAX leg was meh ... and I still can't quite get how UA justifies no meal service in F on a four-hour flight). It was 20+ years in the making. I suspect that the next million won't take quite that long (now that I know what I'm doing).
Off to confer 1K status on mrs. iapetus ... and modify my profile!

Finally reached 4M
I'm just back from a week in Switzerland with the wife. I crossed 4M about 200 miles short of ZRH on the flight from Dulles. The GS crew at IAD pulled out all the stops for us - I still know many of them from when I last had GS status five years ago. We got the Mercedes ride across to C, greetings and photos and champagne. Then escort to the plane. The captain and both first officers came to chat with us. We got a copy of the flight plan, with joking about since it was the only copy, they might run back for it. At the point I crossed, we were served champagne, and given another bottle. Ironically the in-flight map showed we were just south of Champagne, France when I reached the goal. When we landed the crew presented me with an official chart marking the spot and signed by crew and purser. They also did make a plane-wide announcement that I could have done without, but my wife was enjoying all the attention. Hats off to United for making this a memorable event. No-one seems to know how many 4M flyers United has. It will be nice to join this club and leave the stress of making yearly mile-stones behind...

I received a nothingburger when crossing the 1M threshold. But i have always only been gold/platinum/1k through the years (never GS) and all my miles are economy butt in seat paid, and most of the time i was even spending less than the USD$ status requirement (overseas home). So i figure i am marked in UAs system as el-cheapo 1MM. I think i am getting a pretty sweet deal out of this arrangement anyhow. I especially like the non-UA lounges overseas, and AFAIK, every time i visit one, UA has to pay. I don't think i will get to 2MM, the first one took me hmm: 15 years, but i'll continue to prefer united metal due to the ability to get exit row seating for free and just being used to it.

Will get 1M on my return flight from China on 6/8. Called United to have them change the seat assignment of my son and told them about this flight.
I also told them about my upcoming accomplishment and hoped they'd give me a copy of the manifest, etc.
I was talking to a 1K agent who seemed clueless. She said she could send me my itinerary by email I said I can access this online but asked her to make a note of what was coming up. We'll see if anything happens.
My wife, who'll soon share the status that I have, just got a card acknowledging her "Silver Status" on our flight home today. See if I get at least that for million mile status on my flight home from Beijing on 6/8

Some gentleman on the other side of the F cabin from me (on MCO-ORD) yesterday afternoon crossed his 5MM on that flight. FA's recognized him quietly but everyone up front could hear what was going on.
