Just a quick shout out to those of you that might be interested in joining Captain Flanagan and some FlyerTalkers for dinner. He'll be attending a FlyerTalk dinner near LAX on Saturday, and one near DEN in a couple of weeks.

The more the merrier!^

Capt. Flanagan in the Washington Times

If I missed this in another thread, mod please merge this or close it.

Capt. Denny in the news. I actually caught this article on my Mon DCA to ORD flight. The author runs into the mythical Capt. Dennis J. Flanagan.

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/...ns-top-praise/

Meeting Mr. Flanagan a day after another United pilot was arrested in London for showing up drunk at work was a good advertisement for the embattled airline, which, like many in the industry, is struggling to improve its customer-service image. Mr. Flanagan said he tries not to get involved in management and labor controversies, but simply to do his job and leave his customers satisfied as they get off his plane.
United has many fantastic pilots and crews. We have all flown flights that have an exceptional flight deck with fantastic crew coordination across the entire plane. I have only flown on one Capt. Denny flight and he is simply the best. It is good to see him getting some public recognition. ^

I totally agree! I so glad to see Capt. Denny receiving the recognition he deserves! I've been on one of his flights, and it was a great experience. I didn't know he was a fellow Navy veteran. What a great United pilot; he truely leads by example!

Wow - glad that he is getting the recognition he deserves (hopefully from UA management too!)

Funny typo though, thanks to the Washington Times:
"Mr. Flanagan's rarely attentive customer-service approach...."

I think they meant "rare, attentive"?

Been on his flights a few times. He is the one person at UA who actually makes you feel like your business is appreciated. The sad part is that it is such a rarity.

That was a good article! Capt. Flannagan deserves praise for his customer focused attitude. United should be very proud of him and for any other employees who try to exceed customer expectations. ^

I just flew on Capt. Flanagan's flight from ORD to IAH last night on a 757! It was a wonderful experience.

I've flown with CAPT Flanagan, and I agree he is something special. That said, lately I've run into others like him - CAPT Roger Hoover, for example, and other unnamed pilots at IAD - at the TSA Moat, on the people movers - or even waiting at the gate - who aren't reluctant to strike up a conversation or answer a question.

I agree. UA has some great pilots. I wish I remembered his name, but on a DEN-LAS 757 in October, I asked the captain about channel 9, and he invited me up, told me everything about the flight, printed out a copy of the flightplan for me, and even took a pic of me at the controls of the 757. Great group of guys up there. ^^ ^

It's been somewhat rare I've met an unmotivated one; but on ORD-LAS an A320 last month, I asked the captain about Channel 9 and he said "I don't trust the people back there." I was very tempted to ask him why he didn't fly cargo

You wont believe this JBLU, but I had that same exact pilot again ORD>IAD a couple days ago; This time he didnt even respond to me if ch9 would be on... (Of course it wasn't)

But lets not take this thread away from the real star, Captain Denny. He is without a doubt probably the most valuable asset United has, bar none.

My Best United Flight EVER!

After a few hundred legs on UA I finally got to meet the great Denny Flanagan today on UA396 this AM from LAS-ORD. As I saw him emerge from the jetway I thought to myself "what is this pilot doing up here" ... then I immediately remembered that this is the token trademark of Capt Flanagan.

As he announced who he was I got giddy like a 14 year old going to see Lady GaGa. As I boarded I introduced myself told him how much I've heard about him on FT and how excited I was to finally get to be a pax on one of his flights.

As Denny wrapped up the boarding greetings he came to my seat in 5B and asked if I'd like to come up front. He brought me into the cockpit and introduced me to his co-pilot and introduced his co-pilot to Flyertalk. He rattled off the most amazing elevator speech to his co-pilot about what Flyertalk is, how many members it has and how many specifically are UA flyers. Pretty cool!

He let me sit in his seat, took a couple pics of me in control of the 757 and as I left he handed me a couple of parting gifts... the Age of Flight book and a UA CD titled "Come Fly With Us"

I have to say I've never felt so authentically cared for and a true appreciation of the business I give to United..... Denny if you're reading this: Thanks for making my day!

It was a treat for Mrs. Fredd and me to meet him in November at the beginning of the Mega Do at UA's ORD reception.

Sitting proudly on our coffee table is a copy of The Age of Flight autographed by him and by Captain Bob Hart, the outstanding gentlemen who piloted us ORD-EWR. ^
