What I find interesting is the spacing of the seats seems off; shouldn't it be 2-2-2 on that frame?
The 763 ghetto birds are being reconfigured with winglets and in a 2-cabin configuration. The BF seats will match the new flat sCO ones, 2-1-2 rather than 2-2-2.

2-1-2 is the standard PMCO BF configuration on the 764 - including the new lie flat ones - and 762. So this actually is a change I like.

Yeah, not a problem with me. Am I risking anything by going with 1L? Thinking that if they happened to not swap equipment in time I could be without a seat.

Same here. No one should miss the 763 ghetto bird.

Definitely better than 2-2-2, although, compared to PMUA's international 763's, they don't have the two rows of 1-1-1.

On this type of plane, the current "best in class" J tends to have 1-2-1, to ensure direct aisle access from every seat.

Actually, compared to UA's old 2-2-2, there is no advantrage to 2-1-2 in direct aisle access (of course, the new seats are wider).

No, they aren't. They never had first suites installed. they were the domestic 767s.

Actually not true. It's only the 14 domestic 763s that are being reconfigured, the 3-cabin 763s will retain it's 1-1-1 configuration in Global First.

Understood.

I actually reworded my post to point out that the 1-1-1 would be lost in comparison to the existing PMUA international 763's.

Definitely no one is lamenting the Ghetto Birds...

As a Frequent flyer to Hawaii out of LAX I am! The 737/757s in coach are much worse then these 767s which have a great 2-3-2 layout and a nice E+ section! It is sad to see small narrowbodies replace these to the islands out of CA. 767s are small compared to what UA used to use to Hawaii. The 737 and 757 is a huge downgrade.

There is no question that the 767 is the best wide body in the economy section, since there is only one middle seat per row.

Having flown the ghetto bird and the 757 to Hawaii, I can't say the 757 is any worse. In fact, the ghetto 767 F seats are narrower than the 757 F seats.

If they had done 2-2-1 (IIRC AC does/did this on their 763s) they'd be able to give direct aisle access to all but one of the seats groups...wonder why they did not.

(Also as an aside, I also wonder why they did not configure 9 abreast planes (787/777) as 2-4-3 as it seems to give far more seating options than 3-3-3.)

Does anyone know if there's a progress chart on the domestic 763 conversions?

I wonder if this is a sign that the first reconfigured -300 craft is FINALLY about to leave HKG. It's been there since February for this conversion! Will be keeping an eye out on the United Fleet Site (shout out to you Jack!).

That would be great if the first Ghetto bird is finally completed...
