Power outage at DEN 18 March 2026 (recovering)
Currently in a long lane of planes holding at DEN due to a power outage in the terminal.
No radio comms, no trains running, nobody able to get to arrival gates. It's complete bedlam here. Anyone in the terminal now? |
Starting to get media coverage:
The Federal Aviation Administration said that a ground stop was issued for 9:54 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., meaning all flights departing to Denver are grounded due to the equipment outages. https://kdvr.com/news/local/power-ou...ing-travelers/ |
We are taxiing to the gate now so I guess ground stop was lifted?
Our FO said power is being restored now. |
Interesting that it went dark. There are two independent 25kV feeds to separate substations at DIA plus they have on-premise diesel backup.

It was only a partial outage.

They were working on the elusive DEN PL and tripped a circuit breaker! :D

Those DEN trains sure go down a lot. Seems to happen every couple weeks.

Dumpster fire at DEN A concourse around 1130

What a mess. Took about 40 minutes to go from B45 to A25.
But trains running now. UCs are all on auxiliary power so no food, only booze. And many escalators not running. |
I remember reading about why there is no alternative walkway for the trains. Maybe it was budget?
|
I called the 1K line to discuss something about a past flight and was on hold for a long time. This now makes sense as to why. I think I'll just call back later.
|
Seems like things are slowly getting back to normal now. Just pushed back from the gate - only about 45 minutes late which honestly is better than I thought it was going to be.

(It seems like even when the rest of the airport has power about 1 in 3 trips through DEN include some kind of train drama... I'm just very happy both of my DEN transits this year included a premium services agent making the B-to-A connection not suck) |
