Travel Bank and E+ Subscription

Sorry if this is in the wrong place to post, but are you able to purchase e+ sub with a travel bank amount? There is clearly a payment option using travel bank that even deducts the total after tax accordingly, but then purchasing leads to an error. On customer support they state you cannot use travel bank funds unless you are gifting the subscription to somebody, so I attempted to gift a sub to myself (which showed the amount with my travel bank deduction), but then charged me the full amount + tax and in the confirmation email shows the full amount too. What's going on here has anybody had something similar happen?

excerpt: Use of TravelBank cash
  1. TravelBank cash is valid for air travel purchases on United and United Express® flights and as otherwise permitted by United. After a TravelBank Award is issued, a service charge may be imposed for each change or cancellation requested by the Member.
  2. TravelBank cash can be used alone or in combination with most other forms of payment. You can’t combine TravelBank cash with travel certificates, future flight credit or miles.

According to this travel bank can only be used for UA/UAX flight purchases, but then again I have not used it yet, so not 100% familiar.

I can see the confusion as NerdWallet claims that you can use TravelBank for subscriptions. I might take one for the team just outta curiosity sometime soon if I remember.

When you're on FlyerTalk long enough, you learn not to trust those click-bait sites.

The confusion is understandable as UA use to state TB funds could be used for subscriptions and as the OP states, UA does offers the opportunity to apply TB funds (for a subscription) but it does not work.
