Check in for same day return flight ?
Hi all,
I booked a same day return flight. I already checked in the first flight. How do I check in on my return flight? App doesn't show my return flight under check in option. If I know this will be an issue, I would just booked 2 one way What can I do to check in on my return flight? I am hoping to pick a E+ seat during check-in as silver. |
You should see prompt for "check-in for other flights" on the home menu of the app.
You can also go to Trips tab, and select the flight yourself to check-in. |

Are you trying on the app or the website? On the web my same day turns used to show under flights for check-in tab on main landing page. |
Click at top left of app home page to drop down menu and select “Check in” if not obvious somewhere else.

FWIW, I book a lot of same day returns, especially PHL-IAH and I always book mine as two separate one-ways. I have found over the years it is easier to handle/adjust them when separate. That said, are they the same flight number? I see it more on AA, but sometimes when the flight number is the same out and back it gets wonky trying to check-in for the return when the same flight number which I get on my BTR-IAH turns.

You only can do it when you get to 24 hours before the return flight. Then, restart the check-in that you already did for your reservation, and it will ask if you want to check in again for already checked-in flights or for all flights that are now eligible.
Thank you for all the help! |

Not there.
No check bag doing it on the app. Definitely book as one way next time. Only trip showing up there is the outbound flight, which I already checked in. This is how I got it done. Check in again and suddenly the option of the inbound trip shown up. I am pretty sure the options were not there before. FWIW, my initial attempt was within 24 hrs of the inbound flight. Thank you for all the help! |
When it's quiet and waiting for the outbound I have had agents in the UC check me in for the return and issue a BP -- I do CLE-EWR-CLE same day 6-10 times per year, no checked luggage.
FWIW, I always book it as a round trip because if IROPS causes the trip to be scuttled it's a lot easier to get both segments dealt with on one reservation -- but I also rarely if ever touch the outbound and frequently move the return around on the day of travel (e.g. a few hours earlier or later) |
For a Sunday last August I redeemed a round-trip award to earn 3 PQFs so I could qualify as a Premier Gold in October.
I flew SPN-GUM-NRT-SPN. I was able to check in for all three flights online, and got all three paper boarding passes when I went to the Saipan airport. I spent less than two hours at the NRT United Club. |

My last CPU as a Premier Silver was indeed NRT-SPN, but two years earlier, in October 2022. :)
