Post your Good EWR Experiences

I know EWR has its bad moments but I just had several very positive experiences at EWR and just want to say EWR isn't always bad. Positive experiences at check-in, security, club, gate, push back, taxi time, on board....

AKA. Nothing to see here. Move along but experiences at EWR can be very positive.

Terminal B

Yes, don't refresh your screen. You read it correctly.

Terminal B is highly efficient getting in and out, aligning boarding time on departure and ground transport upon arrival.

What would you like to know good sir?

They have held flights for me at least 2-3 times the past year. I can't complain about! All of them on EWR-IAD as either the last or next to last flight of the night.

I like the new Terminal A and appreciate there is a Bluestone Lane (coffee).

Some of the staff in the Polaris Lounge are very lovely and one barista in the A121 United Club is very nice.

I had an incredibly smooth connection in EWR today. My flight up from the south didn't even need to circle the airport; it was already lined up with the runway naturally. Touched down with no congestion, taxiied for less than 10 minutes. We were at the game 30+ minutes early so had to wait for a crew who weren't ready, but they got out there in less than 5 minutes. Was up and in the terminal within 15 minutes of touching down. And my next gate was right next door. The whole thing felt too eerily easy, given my past experiences with EWR.

How are the EWR crews in Polaris, in general? Are they usually as grumpy and tired as the IAD Polaris crew?

I just checked my records. EWR is my second most common airport with 43 visits. I've only had one bad experience there, all other experiences were neutral to positive. A few misc memories:
  • I've enjoyed my time in the polaris lounge there, the waitresses in the restaurant always keep my mimoas full, plus there are usually macaroons.
  • I also bumped into my skip-level manager at the Saison bar, and was able to book a last minute reservation into Classified for us which earned me some wow points w/ him.

I do like seeing some of the regular staff at the EWR lounges (Polaris and UC bartenders, Polaris dining room servers). Several have been there for years and are quite friendly.

Perhaps unusual on my part, but my real favourite aspect of EWR is morning int'l arrival to B; quick go through passport and customs; then a refreshing, open-air morning walk from B to C before connecting (to elsewhere, lol).

I was on a flight that left 5 minutes early once.

My wife's miracle flight tonight to RSW left within 1 hour of scheduled time - WooHoo!

This was a few moons back, but I did get an experience there that I've never seen or heard of in the past. Was flying PLS-EWR-BTV in paid J as an AC *G. When boarding the flight in PLS, I get a message that the EWR-BTV was cancelled. OK.. I'll figure it out when I get to the desk after collecting my luggage at EWR.

I get to the desk and find out that the next available flight to BTV was then next afternoon but the agent was able to get me on the early morning flight to YUL. Great. Then she gave me a key to a hotel room and a meal voucher. Not a voucher for the hotel, but a key to the actual room. I hopped off the shuttle and walked right to my room. Brillant.

I have flown from EWR my entire life, kid to mid 40s now. I have been GS since 2016. In my entire life, I have never lost a bag, never had a flight cancelled where I wasn’t offered a rebooking, never had an employee ruin my or my family’s travel experience. In fact, we have many small kids and they have gone out of their way to help (when the stroller wheel fell off, when the kid was screaming for a cookie, when all we needed was a little milk in the middle of decent turbulence). Terminal A is one of the best airport products out there, and for a dedicated terminal, C is pretty compact and easy to navigate. It’s easy to laugh about EWR or Jersey in general, but I’m proud to be a EWR based flyer and have been an evangelist for United for over a decade, so much so that I’ve converted two colleagues who were former Delta flyers and who live in Manhattan to GS.

{F}or those of us in NJ, we know how lucky we are to have a major airline run a major hub at our home airport, and we like it and we like them!

So for all the EWR staff and crew reading this, thank you from one of the thousands of fliers who appreciate you and your NEWARK BASED PRODUCT.

I guess I need to find a way to find many small kids somewhere.
