WiFi Availability Question

I don't fly UA as much as AA so not sure on the ins and outs on stuff like this, Have a flight tomorrow on UA operated by SkyWest

The flight shows to be operated by N627SY, United.com and email are claiming no wifi onboard. However, when I look at the United fleet site, it shows this bird has GoGo.

Any idea why they would show it as unavailable, or if it will indeed be available?

It’s a new EMB175 that will have WiFi but doesn’t yet. Both the 737s from Boing and the EMBs are delivered dark and have WiFi added afterward.

Ah, ok. Oddly enough had a flight on AA on Christmas day that was a 4 day old E175, same thing.

Out of curiosity, how long does it generally take for Wifi to be installed?

The actual process can be a day or two but rotating the aircraft into a facility capable of doing the mod may take some time due to logistics on all sides (e.g. can the airplane be spared from the operations? Does the MRO facility have a hole in their schedule that this can be fit into?) so it may be weeks to months before its done.

Another wrinkle is with UA rolling out Starlink for the wifi solution in the near-ish future, at some point UA will decide not to fit any additional aircraft with the legacy equipment to avoid writing off too much of that investment which means some planes will be flying dark for longer than usual -- I'm not sure if UA is to that point yet, but IIRC The UAX fleet will be coming first.
