While I prefer to eat before boarding a TATL, not everyone arrives at the airport early enough to do that.

United’s race to the bottom continues.

Example: When I went to Italy a couple of years ago, my original itinerary would have given me 90-120 minutes layover in ORD, more than enough time to hit the Polaris lounge before boarding. The reality is that my flight from DEN to ORD was delayed so much (inbound plane was delayed) that they started boarding the Chicago-Milan flight before my DEN-ORD flight even got to the gate. There were nearly 2 dozen of us connecting from the Denver-Chicago flight to the Chicago-Milan flight (a couple of them needing wheelchairs) so they held the flight for us but there was NO time to eat before boarding and I had skipped lunch anticipating the Polaris lounge so dinner on the flight to Milan was greatly appreciated.

100% I was just countering someone else’s argument that the desire for a passenger to sleep should trump everything else that other passengers may choose to want/need.

Agree that the list in #44 is relevant. Pax who wish to sleep should but not interfere w others.

QR is excellent..UA would do well to copy.
my ideas include that UN should change vendors, menus, chefs..and delete the poor breakfast service as most folks are awake hours pre boarding

And food of dubious or inconsistent quality (to nudge folks to be done quick and sleep)

<although usually a reasonable dessert option>

I absolutely understand the express or limited dining option on a late night TATL. However, my specific scenario served up in the survey was a 14 hour flight departing at 8am. The idea of a single tray option that didn’t even include a hot entree was repeated across multiple questions. I can see it now - removing another J FA position to align with domestic staffing levels.

Honestly -- these surveys are scary as they foreshadow what is to come.... Honestly -- your scenario is what we do monthly to TYO from NYC -- a 13-14 hour flight with no hot food? How cheap can UA get for a $7k ticket? I wonder why I NEVER get any surveys like this from any other airlines....

When requested by the pax.

We are at the point where all there is to look forward to with Polaris is a steadily diminished soft product. Those of us who were able to enjoy Polaris during the first year of the rollout were fortunate.

One of my myriad Japan business trips occurred during the first week of the Polaris rollout. It was truly impressive. I especially loved the dessert carts and cheese service. CS and the 1K desk were outstanding in those days. Boy, we had it good.

Got this, filled it out, and can't count the number of times that I mentioned QUALITY (yes, in caps) in my responses. None of this stuff matters if the food is still crap.

So did we! Actually -- the reason we all complain so much NOW is that THEN it really was competitive -- and now, not so much. TBH I would take half as good as it was at launch and be happy! When I saw the lunchables picture above I actually was going to post that it would be an upgrade....

As someone who regularly goes on about how nobody paying full fare (or close) business does it for the food and it's all about the ability to sleep and get work done, I do see one thing I like in this survey: the focus on departure time.

For a 5pm east coast to Europe, it took me a long time to realize meaningful sleep wasn't happening at that hour, and that the time we land is actually closer to my normal bedtime. So the differentiation between early and later departures could be useful, but sadly as others have noted I suspect they're just looking for validation for cuts that are already planned.
