An Uber finally responded. The painter scheduled to leave Muscat in about five minutes. Let’s see if this story has a happy ending!

False alarm: the driver who accepted the ride says he can’t come because of flooding.

Another update: UA164, MCT-DXB, has been on a rolling delay since 2030. It’s now scheduled to leave at 2315 arriving into DXB at 0017, so I guess that UA163 will be delayed by 30 minutes or so.

The latest update is that MCT-DXB is delayed until 0500. I assume that the crew times out. UA163 is now scheduled for 0800 arriving at 1430.

Naturally enough, UA163 is canceled. The ship currently stuck at MCT will perform United 163 tomorrow. This flight is actually been delayed by three hours or so and is leaving. I believe at 4:30 in the morning. I suppose the good news for me is that I was switched to the nonstop flight on Emirates to LAX. At least I get home earlier than planned.
So long story short: UA163 from Wednesday will go out as UA3032 on Friday at 0200. Ship 3017 finally made it from MCT to DXB earlier today as UA3030. It carried a plane load of passengers. I’d love to hear from anyone who was trapped in Oman on that flight.

They had hoped to get UA163 out his morning, but it was not to be. UA3030 and UA163 were on rolling delays for three or four hours.

I had a great time meeting the crew at the gate while the (I hope) final chapter in this saga unfolded. They were in great spirits. It was the same crew that I flew with on Sunday.

DXB was like a refugee camp this morning. It looked as if thousands of people had spent one or two nights sleeping there. I abandoned my plans to fly Emirates once I learned that check in wouldn’t open until after the flight departed. The airport was pretty chaotic, which isn’t surprising as the city got 18 months of rain in 18 hours. The city is quickly bouncing back.

In a few hours, if all works out UA3032 and UA163 (three hours later) will be winging their way to EWR.

Even got to take the rolls in the elevator! They made it clear that this wasn’t a UA thing - it’s a service for *A - clearly as UA could care less about this 1k - and GS in 8 hours….. that will be the topic of another thread - was so appalled at how UA treated anyone who wasn’t GS in ZRH….

fyi - economy sucks on LX too - but the chocolates still rock!
Had the same treatment by UA at LHR in Dec 24. Due to snow my OS flight from Vie was very late arriving, leaving 20 mins to connect to my UA flight to the US. Expecting to overnight at LHR, I was instead met at the jetway by an agent who drove me and 2 others on a cart to the front of security, then to the transit desk, and finally to the gate just as boarding was ending. No way we would have made the flight otherwise (security line alone was 100+) and UA earned my loyalty that day.

I've been on WhatsApp on and off over the last 48 hours trying to help a friend get to DXB from MLE, on EK. They finally got into DXB about 28 hours later than planned (original flight cancelled, then the replacement the next day was four hours late). Once they landed at DXB, it took about 80 minutes before the airport authority to get buses out to their 773 to unload the passengers. The pilot indicated that he had heard airport staffing was running about 40% below norm, as many people had not been able to come in to work.

Sorry - I should stop doing that....

Just got home -- of course UA screwed up my spend / mileage posting so I'll have to call tomorrow to get it properly credited - I spent $6.7k on the return flight and they credited me 15k miles and like $2k spend.... Ugh...

AC56 made it out just fine today even with the catering calamity going on up there. Cmon UA, if even AC can manage to get a plane somewhere, anyone can.
