My guess is “no”. I think just the unapplied instruments will be converted. If one redeposits an applied pre-conversion GPU, one should get 40 points deposited.

Hmm thanks. Though their website is confusing on this topic as it talks about "Departures prior to Dec 4th" : https://mileageplusupdates.com/milea...ccordion-faq-4

"How will we convert an existing reservation?

On December 4, we’ll convert all remaining Global Premier Upgrades and Regional Premier Upgrades to PlusPoints. Any upgrade requests that are already made for flights on or after December 4 will be converted as well.
  1. Your Global Premier Upgrade request could be priced lower with PlusPoints. For example, you placed a Global Premier Upgrade request for a domestic flight. Your Global Premier Upgrade is worth 40 PlusPoints, but you’ll only use 20 points since short-haul pricing is lower1.
  2. If you made a request for a flight departing on or after December 4, 2019, and had no flight segments with confirmed upgrades, the request will stay in place but you’ll immediately receive a PlusPoints refund equal to the value of the Regional Premier Upgrade or Global Premier Upgrade you used for the request. PlusPoints aren’t deducted until we’re able to confirm an upgrade.
  3. If you don’t receive your highest priced PlusPoints upgrade, you’ll receive a refund for the difference of PlusPoints after you arrive at your destination — even if you placed your request with a Global Premier Upgrade or a Regional Premier Upgrade before we converted to PlusPoints.
1We’re unable to extend PlusPoints pricing to departures before December 4, 2019"

It's not a model of clarity, but they're saying they'll refund 20 points. The key language is: "Any upgrade requests that are already made for flights on or after December 4 will be converted as well."

IAH-OIL-TRASH Oct 29, 2019 11:42 pm

Yeah, it’s thick reading, but does indeed look like a refund would be forthcoming. I could probably come up with better language than UA did.

Thanks for the input. The only way to make these enhancements even more confusing is to have stellarly confusing wording in the FAQ!

Just part of UA's ongoing "simplification" of Mileage Plus :)

UA thinks that it does. They get rid of PQM, PQS and PQD and replace them with PQF (without fare class multiplier) and PQP (with a can of worms). Remember that 2 is still smaller than 3. So, it is a simplification.

it used to just be miles flown.....that's simplest.

It's not simplest because not all miles are the same. Take away all of the multipliers and then it becomes drop-dead simple.

Combining / pooling PlusPoints?

I can't find anything in the FAQ. Has anything been said about potentially combining PlusPoints from different accounts?

For example, could I use 20 of my own PlusPoints and 20 of a friend's to upgrade my TPAC flight?

Yes, you can use 10 +points for EWR-SFO/LAX routes with PE cabins.

that's PE to J, not Y to PE.

Astoundingly, you get dinged 20 points for Y to PE.

Thank you all! I just flew in PP, and thought it was quite good mirroring domestic F

I would have assumed they would have addressed it if you could

If a LT 1K doesn't qualify for any status tier by flying, do they get 280 or 320 at end-of-year?

pdx1M Oct 30, 2019 6:08 pm

Should be 280 based on what they have done in the past system. 2 RPUs(40) plus 6GPUs(240) for 280.

spartacusmcfly Oct 30, 2019 6:27 pm

Interesting. So the incremental 40 can only be earned by actually flying and earning Platinum. So technically, there is a small difference between LT 1K and flying 1K.
