Android app - incorrect boarding countdown
 

Anyone on the latest version on Android? Looks like one of the new features is boarding countdown push notification. It tells the wrong remaining time to board, and I am unable to turn it off, despite unchecking every push notification in the settings section.

Edit: a work around is just asking Android to stop all UA app notifications.

Yes, and not only that, but if you dismiss the notification, it sends you a new one in a few minutes. Very annoying. A less draconian workaround than turning off all UA Appy notifications is to set the UA App "Ongoing trip notifications" to "silent", and then select "minimize". This prevents a pop-up notification, prevents a UA App notification from appearing in the notification tray next to the time, and banishes the notification to the silent section of the notification tray.

Is it a staged notification by boarding group? Or just a general notice that boarding is about to begin?

The app provides merely a general boarding notice. Nothing so complex as Groups.

OK, and once you push back, the notification changes to arrival time.

It seem United has recently added a countdown to boarding notification in their Android app. However the time it counts down to is incorrect.

I'm sitting at the gate now for a flight that starts boarding in 5 minutes, but the notification is showing boarding starts in 21 minutes, and is counting down 1 minute every minute. The same happened for my flight on Monday - it was showing a countdown time to a time about 30 minutes after boarding time.

Anyone else seeing this, or is it just me?

Saw it yesterday in DEN.

And this one also seems to be wrong. My flight last night was scheduled to land at 9:15pm, with estimated arrival showing as 9:02pm pretty much from the moment we took off. At 8:46pm, as we had already started the decent, the notification was showing "Arrival in 58 minutes" which would mean a 9:44pm arrival which matched neither the scheduled arrival time nor the estimated arrival time (my phone was connected to Wifi, including internet access).

Some examples of the notification. 8:25am flight on Monday. Boarding was stated on the app/boarding pass as 7:45am.

So that's working towards an 8:04am boarding time - which doesn't correspond to anything (not even the 'boarding ends' time, although it's closer to that than anything).

A minute before the stated boarding time (and maybe 2-3 minutes before they actually started boarding) it was :

During boarding, maybe a minute before they closed the door (and 7 minutes before scheduled departure), it was showing :

I could easily see someone missing a flight due to this, either because they didn't leave home early enough based on the boarding time, or because they were in a lounge/bar on the other side of the airport and presuming the countdown was correct!
