Will United extend 80 January 31 2024 expiring PlusPoints to 30 April? (YMMV?)

Historically UA will extend up to 2 GPUs (now 80 PlusPoints) from the January expiration to the April 30 expiration if the elite has re-qualified for 1K status or GS.

Generally, UA does not announce the policy until mid to late November. And there is no guarantee the policy will be renewed any year. Will update thread title, if and when, it becomes possible to extend. When UA decides to do this, it can take a week or two before most agents are aware.

The extension can be done via email or phone -- also either by MPSC or phone agents (some phone agents will need to get help).

No extensions of RPUs or for Platinums has been offered in the past.

And just a reminder, GPUs (or RPUs) / PlusPoints cannot be applied to flights scheduled after the expiration date.
Once expired the GPUs cannot be recovered / extended.

Will United extend 80 January 31 2024 expiring PlusPoints to 30 April? (YMMV?)

So in past years United has extended 80 PlusPoints if you made 1K for the next year. Pre-COVID. I think it happened towards the end of October. I have 30 PlusPoints that will expire in January unused so interested to see if any 1Ks have been able to get them extended. I will renew 1K for 2024 next month.

Thanks for any insights.

That announcement has rarely been before mid-November, sometimes December. And only for 1Ks(&GS) who requalified for 1K. Originally for 2 GPUs. now for up to 80 Plus Points, thru April of the next year. In 2021 and 2022 this was not done due to the general extension of PlusPoints. Was done in 2020 but then extended to Oct

Better for them not to, even though I could see over 100 expire. But it would be nice for UA to convert them to something useful like they used to convert the 500-milers to RDMs.

If UA extends anything this time and/or again gives status to people who didn't actually earn it, I'd be royally pissed off.
It made [somewhat] sense during Covid-19 but that's done now....enough already!

The question appears to be about the longstanding practice of extending up to 80 PlusPoints (formerly, 2 GPUs) to July April for people who re-qualified for 1K. I doubt that's going away.

Aye, you are correct.
I only noticed that after I posted....the word "extend" must have triggered me.
If UA does that again (80PP to July April) for 1k re-quals, my outrage will be tempered!

The traditional extension has been to 30 April, not July

As a new 1K (who has requalified), I didn't know about the "routine" extension. Thanks for the info!

I only learned about it from FT and it was when it was GPUs. FT is a great resource.

When they were GPUs, it was not a "routine" extension. Members needed to ask (by emailing 1kvoice.)

If I am remembering correctly, only PP were automatically extended from end of Jan to end of April. It is a relatively recent phenomenon.

My personal experience was with GPUs - I requested and it was granted. This was based on reports by others who had done the same thing so it was routine if you requested. Key was you needed to have requalified for 1K.

I certainly hope not, regardless of whether one has requalified for status or not. Time for all the random COVID-era unwritten benefits to sunset.
