Welcome Delta Refugees - UA Edition

Well, considering many delta medallions are now considering going free agent and/or UA/AA, we want to warm-heartedly welcome you!

Sell me or talk me out of switch from DL to UA

Without the MP 2025 requirements posted yet, not sure I'd roll out the red carpet (haha, see what I did there?) just yet.

Two of the three don't apply and the other is four years old (pre-covid) and doesn't reflect current DL reality. C- for effort.

As a 1k/diamond I can assure most people the grass isn't greener.

Pluses of UA when not in a hub city:
Upgrades to the hub are much easier!
The UA flights out of ATL/DTW/MSP/SLC will generally be lighter in elites.

Minuses of UA when not in a hub city:
Upgrades from HUB-anywhere are going to be non-existent.

General pluses:
C+ is easier to get and more plentiful.
The free drink and snack in economy as a 1k is nice.

General Minuses
Lounge access requires buying a membership or getting a chase card (think amex platinum annual fee).

Biggest minus of all?
GS will take every single available upgrade when they at all can.

Overall I would be surprised if more than a handful came over here. AA might be a more likely landing spot given NYC and East Coast presence of many DL elites. Not exactly UA's strong point.

Oh, and I left out the fact that UA is just salivating at hammering us just as hard. I am 100% certain I will have to choose between status on one airline and complete free agent status within the next two years.

Be a free agent already. (then we won't have pages and pages of people going through various stages of grief every time x airline make changes)

I picked the first few of the many, many, many, many threads. This literally comes up on a several a month times basis. Let alone the thread that was started this morning:

I actually clear more upgrades out of hubs than I do going to hubs. I think I've only gotten one CPU ex-SEA all year, and that was in January. Meanwhile I get upgraded ex-EWR/IAD maybe 20% of the time?

errrr... what? EWR defined the term "fortress hub". Almost 70% of the EWR pax are flying United. United also has a healthy LGA presence.

United is the strongest in the NYC metro area ... and by quite a bit. Here are the 2022 statistics from the PANYNJ:

I've dealt with this argument before, Delta may have the most departures in the NYC area, but UA (with just 2 of 3 airport served) does still carry the highest amount of pax. And this is also putting into account that their main hub is at one of the worst performing airports in the USA.

AA out of NYC is tough to stick with. Source: I'm a multi-year (former) EXP from before I moved to NYC. I tried. I really tried to make it work on AA out of NYC. DL/UA just have vastly better networks out of NYC.

It's not impossible, of course, bit didn't work for me to commit to AA at NYC. (I still do fly AA sometimes, when it works for me).

I guess this is off-topic, but how did Air France carry 313 domestic pax???
