I lived in downtown Las Vegas for 32 months. When there was a big event in town, or even a long weekend, ex-LAS fares were always much less than for those flying in. Sort of like suburban counter-commute highway traffic. Those were my favorite times to leave and return.

It's all about supply and demand.
